On the Peter Pan ride, there is a scene with the mermaids. One of those mermaids looked an AWFUL LOT like Ariel! Can anyone confirm this? Did I see that right or am I just crazy? Is it just a mermaid with red hair and green tail - or does the face and everything look like Ariel?

The scene goes by quick - so I'm not sure I got a real good look!

She has red hair but doesn't really look like Ariel. I'm assuming the red headed mermaid was there before The Little Mermaid came out but I can't confirm that.

You are correct...Peter Pan's Flight (1971) was there waaaaayyyy before The Little Mermaid was released (1989).

I heard somewhere that when they were trying to come up with Ariel, they went back and looked at some of the mermaids in the Peter Pan movie. They also intentionally did not make her blonde because The Little Mermaid was released soon after Splash!

This is not Ariel, but my little girl always swears it is! Everytime we ride PP she yells out there is Ariel!princess: pirate:

Yeah, I know Peter Pan's Flight was there from the get go but I wasn't sure if they ever gave Peter Pan a refurb and changed the mermaid. I've been to Disney dozens of time but I never went in the 90s and only once in the early 80s

The mermaid looks just like she did in 1973 when we went there for the first time. Peter Pan has been refurbished but the mermaid hasn't changed.
I don't think she looks that much like Ariel.

Yeah, I was wondering about it getting added in a rehab too!

I'll have to go back and pay close attention to the Peter Pan movie to see a red-headed mermaid in it.

Nope, but interesting theory. Actually, the inspiration from Ariel came from some renditions done way before even the Peter Pan ride--drawn in the 1930's when Disney originally entertained the idea of creating the movie. (Maybe they designed the PP mermaids from these drawings too...who knows.)

Wrong...all of the mermaids were changed during the 1990 refurb of Peter Pan's Flight...and the mermaid was changed to resemble Ariel.

Here are before and after pics:

I was hoping someone had pictures! AND - before and after pictures to boot!

I'm just glad they rehab'd it and gave the mermaids some TOPS! Goodness! :rotfl:

I Know , when I saw the befores and afters thats what I was thinking... Glad they coverd up! pirate: princess:

red hair, purple clamshells... I know a lot of mermaids... only one with red hair and purple clamshells.

Wow I didn't even noticed that they had no tops on before the rehab. I kind of figured that was Ariel. I insisted it to DH who said no it couldn't be.

Call me the odd one out, but I don't mind them topless. I sincerely doubt there's a store selling the wonderclam in all parts of the ocean. Some regions probably still have topless mermaids. ;)

I swear I have old pics of the mermaids and there's one with red hair. Unless, someone took a picture with my old camera that still had film in it-I guess maybe that's what happened.
