Hi! I started another thread a few days ago for Disers interested in posting their responses when calling about the AP "possible" Discounts! Today it became an argument forum! I'm starting a new one in hopes a moderator will lock the other, and we can all get back to our friendly discussion of WDW, and its DISCOUNTS or NOT!!

Called and spoke to a CM today (3:15) that said that if they're not out now, most likely, there won't be any.

I don't hink we can go by the cm's opinions because I think they are just that. At about the same time (3:15) my traveling buddy was told that they should come out eventually although no one knows when! I for one will keep trying and if they do great if they don't oh well, we'll have fun anyway!

I called about 1:00pm. The CM was very sweet. She said that about 50 other people have asked her the same question today and she was sorry to not have any answers for us. She said that Disney hasn't made any announcements to them about not having AP rates this fall so I should keep checking back every couple of days.

I was told around 5pm that they should be out any time...this CM didn't know what was taking so long, LOL

M y mom tried today to get AAA rate applied to her Thanksgiving ressie at WL. Nothing. The CM did say to call back for FL Res rates. She didn't mention AP rates, but did not know that my mom was a AP holder, either.

The Cm was very nice I talked too also said keep trying they don't know anything!! I do not need the rate til Dec. but I know some of you are on the line! Hang In there!!!

SO, do all rates have limits--meaning--are there only a certain number of rooms available at AAA rates, or DC rates, or AP rates? and when they are gone for your timeframe, they are gone? We have PAPs, and DC--and have never been able to get a room at a discount! (we always travel last minute, though, so I expect that, LOL!)

I do believe all rates have limits as far as how many they have at that particular rate...after all, they have budgets to create too. And special rates are usually based on how many rooms they have available for any point in time....the more rooms that are already booked at rack rate (or whatever rates have been offered...FTP being a player in the game this fall) the fewer the discounts will be.

At this point, personally I'm just waiting to know "yes, or no" on the whole thing....once I know I can decide what my options are. But I'm only looking for one night too....I can't imagine being down to the wire and not having a reservation.

This is a much nicer discussion than the other one was, so I feel safe asking this, I was waiting on room only codes but that looks unlikely so if the AP discount comes out and I take that can I use my daughter (who is a child) as the AP holder in our room? She is the only one left that I need to buy a park pass for and I wasnt sure whether it had to be an adult AP holder or if it could be a child. Thanks for your help!

I agree, I feel safe here to, I didn't post to the other thread for obvious reasons. It is nice to have a place to look to see if someone has checked lately so we can reduce the calls to Disney!

As for your question, I don't have personal experience but I have seen the question before and the answer appears to be yes, even a childs AP can be used for the discount! Just check with the CM when you make the ressie to be safe.

Good Luck!

I surfed over to the Orlando Convention and Visitors Bureau, clicked on Research and found some interesting info. Orlando has about 111,000 hotel rooms of which, I think, about 25,000+ are Disney - the Lake Buena Vista area has about 35,000. There will be about 114,000 rooms in Orlando by end of year. The Lake Buena Vista area was -10.6% occupancy for June 2003 over 2002 - average room $98.37. The week of 8/3/03 thru 8/9/03 was -3.6% over 2002 - average room down to $85.93.

So even with the FTP, Disney is still probably way under where they want to be. A lot better, but not above water yet. They're probably hoping the improvement will continue without more deep discounts. Keep in mind that these stats are both compared to a fall off the cliff in 2001. The post-FTP stats ought to be interesting.

I'm not in marketing at Disney, but I'd bet they are tearing hair as to how to proceed over the next 6 months or so. Nearly 43,000,000 people are expected to visit Orlando this year, and Disney's got a LOT of room and attraction competition out there. Not even a third of these people (14 million+) will visit much less stay at Disney. (Yes, I was surprised by this, too.) All of this probably has a big effect on what's going on with room and AP discounts right now. They've tried giving rooms and tickets away. What next? I'd love to be a fly on the wall at marketing meetings.

For one thing, much as we'd like to think otherwise, I doubt that angry AP holders and Disboard discount hounds are #1 and 2 on the top of their to-do list. But it never hurts to let them know how you feel!

Joyfulsnuff: We just bought AP"s this summer, last Dec. first had DC discount and then public codes came out in July that were a lot better rat for 12/02, so I called and they applied our rate! But also from what I understand you only need one AP to qualify for AP discount and it can be your childs AP! But, like the other poster said always double check!!

Thanks for the replys! I will make sure I check with the CM when (thinking positive thoughts) the AP rates come out and I apply it to my reservation!

I agree, I would love to know if AP discounts are going to be a thing of the past. Based on historical data, we had planned to purchase APs ( and we probably still will) and take a second trip in Oct 04. If AP's won't be available, then I want to join AAA. I am a planner (like everyone here isn't LOL) and the not knowing gets to me!

Sure am glad that I am a DVC member and do not need to play this price game. I get a super room for next to nothing and a host of other discounts all over
