Argo why wrongly bash the Brits yet again

To be fair, that portrayal originated on the other side of the pond, so I think maybe that's Brits taking a swipe at their own -- nothing to do with us Yanks.

The same can be said for Richard III. There is a society that defends him as a decent king. Shakespeare's play is what most people remember about him.

Although he probably killed his nephews. :P

Actually YES.most people I deal with, when Hollywood is mentioned, the eyes all roll back. How many industries do you know of that has almost weekly award shows to feed their egos?........same with the thiefing political types inside the DC loop......

Forget Hollywood. The best "dramatic license" can be found right here on the DIS.

True.

The fact is that many, if not most, of the key players in this crisis are still alive. It would make sense to stick with the actual known facts and not take huge "creative license" with the movie. In Argo, they've basically rewritten history.

:thumbsup2

Who is bashing the Brits? All I see is constant praise and adulation for them.

Argo was a fabulous movie.

Its more a discussion on that fact that it was mosty fantasy and not based on the facts. Some of the people who were there are not happy that they were portrayed in a poor light that was not factual.

Why get so upset over a fictionalized account? It happens all the time. There were other people behind the scenes working to get the Americans out. I don't read about them griping.

Why get upset over a fictionalized account? Because often times, the average person doesn't actually take the time to understand or even get the real story and the fictionalized account ends up being what most people believe.
Take Glory Road for example. Most of the stuff happened the year after they won the national title and bits of it happened all over the place. But the movie portrayed the majority of it happening at one university and in one town both of which got some blow back because of that portrayal.

How many industries do you know of that has almost weekly award shows to feed their egos?..
Ever heard of Teacher of the year, salesman of the month, Realtor of the year? CEO of the year? employee of the month? The Fortune 500? All that stuff is pretty much ego feeding.

I work for a retailer and we are always recognizing people for their work. We have monthly associate awards for each store, we always have associates featured on our internal website, we do quarterly certificates for customer service and then yearly plaques.

Every industry has people with huge egos, get 2 VP's in my company in the same meeting and it is like a battle of the egos. The only difference is that most people with these huge egos aren't featured in mainstream media.

Americans assets were on the run trying to reposition themselves. Americans had been evacuated as the political situation quickly deteriorated. Our options were limited and our government was doing more than we will ever know.
Look up Thom McInnis blog third culture kid blog. He now lives in the Austin area. Gives one more side of the story. Now if only we could get justice for those brave Americans who were held for 444 days. Until you live through the fall of a government, then you have no idea of the chaos that goes on around you in that situation.

I understood quite well what the discussion was about. I simply see it as over the top.

The solution for those upset about this is really quite simple. Don't see movies and don't watch award shows. Those of us who enjoy them will continue to do so while those who don't won't be as bothered by artistic license or awards.

Actually Employee, Teacher, Salesman, etc of the Month would be monthly which is 12 times a year not including the other yearly awards.

I personally try not to compare movies that are "inspired by true events" to the actual true events because there is usually a ton of creative license taken. I just take the movie itself for it's entertainment value and take the actual event as fact.

Mary spoke with CBS about the painful memories that came from hearing Brad's final phone call again and her authorized use of the audio:

When I arrived home I found Brad's message on our phone, and, of course, these were his last words in my view, because we never heard from him again. My first thought was, isn't anything sacred anymore? I used it in situations where I wanted to convey Brad's story. None of those situations were used for promotional or professional or commercial endeavors.

Does this have something to do with bashing Brits? :confused3

What does this have to do with Argo and Brit bashing?

Oooooooooookay. This post just pointed the thread on a fast track to crazy town. I'm sorry but the Daily Mail is equivalent to the National Enquirer so I equate its usefulness with toilet paper. I am not familiar with the second site referenced so I will withhold my opinion on whether or not it is reputable.

I have to ask also. What does this have to do with the original topic or any offshoots of the original topic?
