For some reason, I decided to check my flights to/from MCO today. Good thing I did!!! They changed my Dec 11th departure from 9:50AM to 8:30AM. There's no way we'd be able to make the early flight so I called US Air and at no charge the moved us to the 12:45PM flight. Only problem is, there are not 2 seats together. DD is either going to be 1 row behind me of in front of me. Hopefully someone will be willing to let us sit together.

Does anyone have experience with not getting seats together and some nice sould trading with one of you?

Don't you hate that? That they can just switch you and not even bother to notify you? As if changing you to another time is not something they should consult you about.

As far as getting someone to switch seats with you, we have had this happen when on a standby flight once. People tend to be very nice to people with small children in tow, we had a bunch of people offer to switch seats with us in order to allow us to sit with our small kids. I hope the same will be true for you, jules.

When you check in, let the person know that you want to be seated together. They will try their best to switch someone around, and if it doesn't happen at that point, I would suggest you tell the flight attendant as soon as you board. She/he will then go around to the passengers and try and find two seats for you and your daughter together.

wvjules,
How old is your DD?

One time we flew as a family on Southwest (which does not give you assigned seats), our flight from Cleveland to St. Louis was very late and we just had time to jump off the plane and RUN to ACROSS the airport to the Phoenix gate. We were the last ones on the plane.:( Our kids were 10 and 7 and no one and I mean NO ONE would offer to at least let the kids sit with 1 parent. We had to split up all over the plane! Needless to say, I sat in my middle seat (squeezed like a sardine) and silently sobbed. I couldn't even see my kids!!:( :( :(

7 yr. old DS got stuck in the middle between 2 old ladies and after a few fidgets, got such stern looks from them, that he later said he sat like a statue for fear of getting yelled at.

10 yr. DD, on the other hand, sat with 2 college guys. They taught her French on a barf bag!!

Pam

Get there early, and see if they'll switch you around at check-in. Otherwise, I'm sure someone will switch with you, since whoever's sitting next to your daughter will be sitting alone - what does it matter who they're sitting next to.

Guess you'll be at WDW when I will - where ya gonna be??

THIS WORKS!

If you can't get seats together, just keep going over and hanging over the people sitting near her.
They will get so annoyned they WILL switch seats then.

It is proven and works ;)

I'll try snoopy's idea of talking to the person at check-in, then the flight attendant. If all else fails, I'll use ratsrule's idea.

Pam, she's 7. The flight to Orlando will be her first flight and the way home will be her second. If the flight the way down is smooth and eventless, I'm sure she'll be fine, but if there is any turbulance or anything else, she'll be very anxious on the way back.

Cookie, we'll be there Dec 5-11. The 5th we're in AKL, the remainder we're in ASMusic.

A long time ago, when I used my dad's frequent flier miles, we would always get the window and the aisle seats. Well then they wouldn't tell you if you were on a 2 or a 3 across row. There were times where I'd be flying with someone only to find out that we had the seat between us. The good thing though is we had the two seats most want (either a window or an aisle) so we were always easily able to switch. If the flight isn't full, they'll let you switch there too if they can't switch you at check in. If not, I've flown solo myself before and several times I've switched from my window seat to a middle seat for others in similar situations (once for a couple on their honeymoon). So I think at the very worst, you should be able to find a simpathetic soul to switch with you.

And I too hate when they switch flights on you! They did that on my flight going out. They had me leaving 30 minutes earlier (at 6:30 am... 7 was bad enough) and arriving an HOUR later  I switched as soon as I could.
