This is our 4th family trip to the world and I torn between a 7am Chef Mickey's and a 10:35 Tusker House. Different days...CM would be on our MK day and TH would be on our AK day. We are trying to be a bit more relaxed and get more sleep.

CM - Pros are obviously is that we are done early and can make it to MK for Welcome Show (9am park opening). We've been before and the kids loved it.

Cons to CM is that I am worried about transportation to the Contemporary. We are staying at Pop and do have our car. I've read that there are for sure 6:30 busses. But I'm worried about making it to MK and then walk over in time. If we drive, it kinda defeats the purpose of getting to MK because then we have to leave and go park the car. If we get a cab (which sounds like the best option) it's an extra cost on an already expensive breakfast. And then concerns about a booster for my 6 year old?

Tusker House - we've never done it, and I always like trying something new. It's cheaper. We can sleep in (AK is a slow day for us). We can hopefully get a taste of some lunch foods when they start switching over. We don't have transportation issues.

Sounds like my decision is made, right? This is a surprise trip for the kids and I was really trying to book things they like and CM was a big hit before. I hope Tusker House isn't a second place let down for them.

Why not do both? They are totally different experiences even if there is some character overlap. The cab to CM won't be much, perhaps $20 or so. You don't need a booster but it's your own call if you are comfortable with him in a cab without a car seat (we are, and like this option for early meals).

Tusker house is a favorite of ours as well, for food and characters and photos. Sounds like your kids are excited for CM, so I say go for both! :)

We much prefer Tusker House to Chef Mickey's. I also like trying to switch things up and do places we haven't yet, so since you haven't done Tusker House I would definitely pick it.

We love Tusker House! The food is so much better than CM! Atmosphere and characters are great, too!

You can request a cab with a booster, but it usually takes extra time for it to arrive. Honestly, if you want a more relaxed trip where you can sleep in, traveling from POP for a 7 am CM doesn't sound like it fits the bill.

Tusker House is our family's favorite. The characters always seem extra friendly there and the food is just wonderful. Have never tried CM so can't compare.

Ditto what the others said about Tusker House, much better food, and a nicer ambiance. The only thing CM does that Tusker House doesn't do is the napkin twirling thing.

Another variable is whether your kids like to get up and eat first thing in the morning. Some kids (and probably many adults) would do better with a little extra shut-eye and be more amenable to a large buffet meal by 10:30AM. :earsboy:

Does TH still do the conga line led by Mickey? Our last trip the kids decided they were too old for that so we didn't hang around after eating and seeing the characters. We were one of the first families seated and the characters were still making the rounds when we left...

We've done both and I say go for Tusker House since you have not tried it yet. It's cute to see the characters in their safari gear!

For me, CM that early before MK would be way too long of a day. And too much hassle and worry about transportation and getting to park open on time.

On a side note, legally in Florida children are only required to use a booster up to and including age 5. Obviously, you may feel differently about the safety. My son is 9 and we still have him use one at home even though he is past the required age. But we don't mess with it at Disney.

We've done both and realllllly preferred Tusker House over Chef Mickey's. The food was much much better, the character interactions and length of stay at each table was much longer and I felt the layout of the restaurant made it feel less crowded.
Actually, the last time we were at WDW in August 2014, of all 9 character meals, Tusker House was the tastiest.

Ok I think we have a solution. We found an 8:05 CP for our MK day. (Kids love CP too) we'll just have to miss the welcome show but that's ok. And we'll keep the TH ressie for AK.

Thanks all for your input!

Sounds like a win, win for you. You get to enjoy an excellent character breakfast in CP where the food is decent and the characters are fun; and TH is a lot of fun with it's characters and good food as well. Ohh, and you won't have to justify eating that slop at CM for the sake of meeting Mickey and co. :thumbsup2

I loved Tusker House, too - the food was great and the characters entertaining, too. Glad you are keeping that one - Enjoy!

Not to hijack the thread, but for those of you who have eaten at TH at the end of the breakfast time, was the buffet still fully stocked, or do they slow down replacing items. We like doing EMH at the parks, then go for a late, relaxing breakfast. We ate at TH once years ago after the Sunrise Safari that AKL ran, and the food was absolutely excellent. There were many more African dishes at that time, compared to what is listed for the present day character breakfast, but I'm sure the food is just as tasty!
