So aren't there two airports at Orlando, FL? I remember looking at a tourist flyer booklet with details of all sort of info and flight, and some of the low cost flights I think go to a secondary airport, which can sometimes save $$, I guess...

Yes, I'd say SFB is in "the area," but I probably wouldn't use it unless you're going to have a rental car. We used it on our very first WDW vacation in 2004--every other time we've flown it's been MCO.

Thanks, guys! I guess also it depends on where exactly you are going stay.

There are actually three commercial airports that use the word "Orlando" in their name.

One is obviously MCO, One is the "Orlando-" Sanford airport (SFB) and then there is the "Orlando-" Melbourne airport (MLB) :rolleyes2

There are general aviation airports in the area. There used to be one right on the WDW property.

Yeah, I guess the assumption was that it would be at or near WDW or Universal, but that is not necessarily the case of course. We tend to be in that mindset here. :)

I think with the advent of Ultra Low Cost airlines and flights (at least, when it all settles down after Covid), having a choice of airports will be at a premium, especially in a place like Orlando...

Having a choice of airports is good all round...

Yes, but actually Tampa is a better option that those other two most of the time. Many times more flights, easy transfer to WDW, all major airlines, etc, etc, etc.

And when the Brightline connection is fully operational, even West Palm Beach, Ft. Lauderdale, and yes, even Miami will come into play.

The third is the executive airport near the city. If your nearest airport offers flights into Sanford that’s what I would do, and mostly do myself when I can.

Executive isn’t a commercial airport though, if you’re flying in or out of executive then cost/budget is not your issue 😂

Just for reference, here are the approximate mileages from the various airports to Disney Springs:
  • Sanford "Orlando" -- about 45 miles
  • Melbourne "Orlando" -- about 75 miles
  • Tampa -- 77 miles
  • MCO -- 18 miles

When I first got on the DIS 18 years ago Sanford was a popular option for both cruisers and WDW vacations. I wonder if there were more flights then? We've always used Orlando.

Allegiant is the only airline that has a significant operation out of SFB.

Yea, I once saw some CHEAP flights on Allegiant to Orlando, but once I looked closer I realized it was not MCO. I hear Allegiant is super "no-frills" - my friend called it a bus with wings.
