Aren't there two airports at Orlando, FL?

Yea, I once saw some CHEAP flights on Allegiant to Orlando, but once I looked closer I realized it was not MCO. I hear Allegiant is super "no-frills" - my friend called it a bus with wings.

Yes and they are strictly a point to point airline only -- no connections. You can only book where they fly non-stop to. So if they only go to Sanford from your city but you really want to go to Las Vegas then the only way you could do that would be to book two individual trips.

Orlando Executive was once the commercial airport for the city.

On my family’s first trip to MCO in 1975, my father asked an agent at the info counter about Executive and she had no idea it even existed. The agent was probably at least 40 years old, but may have been a recent transplant to the area.

There is also another airport about 88 miles north of Disney Springs in Ocala, but doesn't have traditional commercial flights.

Orlando Executive had a unique restaurant many years ago (originally a themed bomb ravaged WWI farmhouse called 94th Aero Squadron). It got re-themed to WWII in Army Air Forces' 4th Fighter Group. You would drive over rumble strips after a guard at the shack would salute you. And then you'd hear voices coming from behind a bunker built with sandbags in the lobby.

There's still a 94th Aero Squadron at MIA. It's actually not IN the airport, it's alongside the south side of the runways, just off our major East-West expressway.

A little random but Disney begins even when you’re flying in. One of the main arrivals into Orlando starts over Valdosta, GA. Fixes are limited to 5 characters. It’s the PIGLT arrival. After Valdosta, the routing takes you over HKUNA to MTATA to JAZMN to JAFAR to PIGLT to RFIKI to TTIGR and then they’ll begin breaking off from there depending on which way they’re landing (aircraft always land and takeoff against the wind).

We fly to Florida twice a year. Skipped last year sadly. When we go to Universal in December we fly into SFB and rent a car, go see my Mom in Leesburg then drive to Royal Pacific the next day and turn the car in to the Avis counter. We fly Allegiant and the "bus with wings" comment is totally unwarranted. The experience is no different than any other major airline. Plus we get free drinks with my Allegiant credit card. I've had more problems getting to Key West on Delta than I've had with Allegiant to SFB. The airport is smaller and easier to negotiate than MCO. Ride share back to the airport is well under an hour and about $45.

Hey, I've never flown them - that's just what my friends called it. They were unimpressed. I'm a Southwest guy myself and try to use them whenever possible.
