Aren't packages discounted at all?

When I did the math, it was $7 more for a package than if I booked room, tix and dining separately. What's the point then?

Much like in grade 4 math class, we're going to need you to show your work before we can answer this question very well.

Specifically what figures did you use for the 'purchase separately' math and what figures did you use for the package math.

Be detailed and specific.

It has to do with the way the taxes are calculated on individual items vs the package. Also you cannot purchase the dining plan separately it has to be part of the package

ga9497 is right in that you cannot purchase the dining plan outside of a package unless you are staying at DVC resort on points.

However, when you add up package components, it should be pretty close. Seven dollars more might be right.. it might not be.. but we would need to see how you did the math to know for sure.

This is what I am coming up with for 5 people

Hotel for 7 nights including tax $2022.70
7 day ph water tix $1672.15
Dining plan $1329.65

Total $5024.50

You only get a discount on the package if there is a discount that is available for your dates
it is too early for your travel dates. Also the All Star Music Suites are not normally included in discounts, only if Disney feels that they really really really need to fill those rooms and they haven't had any problems doing that so far. I have only seen it happen once and it was for this coming September for very specific dates

Question, how did you get a price for the dinning plan without the package? I know it is something like $37 per day per adult, but I did not think you could purchase it if you did not get a package, which would render the comparision moot.

I do know when I purchased my trip I did room only and tickets as it was cheaper than the package (did not do ddp). I was told it was because of the little extra things the package gave us (don't remember what they were but nothing I needed).

I was using the reservations home page and selecting Tickets from Canada...
It comes up as $1018...

From the home page I see that the tickets come up as $1084

I see now that the $1018 quote says "not including applicable taxes" at the bottom of the screen.

Obviously that is the difference... Thank You
