Are you supposed to take inventory?

We just got back from our first stay in a villa. After reading a few mini trip reports, people are mentioning the kitchen was missing some things. Are you supposed to check to make sure you have everything? I have no clue how many knives, spoons, etc we had. I do remember seeing two juice glasses...was there supposed to be more than that? We never ran out of silverware, but I don't know how much we had.

I've only stayed in 1 bedrooms, but there is a inventory list on the back of one of the kitchen cabinets. I'm typing this from my BWV living room, I just checked to be sure it was there (it's a rainy and windy night :( ). Only 2 plastic juice glasses listed. I've never bothered to count everything.

The first couple of years we took inventory. I think that I was a bit nervous that they would charge me if anything was missing. It was funny because we would call and ask them to bring 2 knives, a fork, a hot pad, etc. to make sure that everything that was on the list was in the room. Then I found out that they don't charge a thing if minor items are missing like that. We don't take inventory anymore and only call if something that we need is missing.
