Are You Skipping Disney This Year?

How many of you have decided against visiting Disney this year? If so, what factors went into determining your decision?

Is it the economy? A desire to see the rest of the country? Has Disney raised their prices too much for your budget? Or...something else?

Don't know if we are your target audience because as much as we'd love to, we are not a trip every year family.

We've been twice. 2007 and 2009 and a one night MVMCP in 2011. We loved the buy 4 get 3 nights promo in 2009.

As a family of 6 Disney adults who love to stay on-site, it's too expensive.

We've got braces and wisdom teeth extractions and auto insurance for 2 teen boys this summer. And dd plays on a travel soccer team with a couple of overnights coming up soon.

We pay for everything outright and our only debt is our mortgage.

We may get to visit Dmil 6 hours away this summer.

We are meeting the in laws in St Augustine this summer. We have tacked on 2 days at Disney. We are planning a bigger trip to Disney in May 2015 with my best friend and her family. We are FL residents so Disney is a cheaper vacation for us. But I do want to see more of the world. But I can get a resident seasonal pass and do two trips relatively cheaply. We did not go last year because DH is a government employee and was furloughed.

We aren't going, but we aren't a trip to WDW every year family though. We typically do one big and two small vacations a year and we like to try new things. I would like to do WDW again in 3 yrs, we just went last summer. I debated on DCL next year, but I don't think I would like a cruise.

We typically try and go every two to three years. This allows us to go for longer and save up for more expierences.

Yes , we are skipping Disney this year ... In fact , I would have been there now ... had to cancel after the roof needed to be replaced in October .
I am a little disappointed , but this just gives me a bit longer to save . Target now is Spring 2015 .I had wanted to get in one more trip before the kids turned the dreaded " Disney Adult " age 9 , but that will not happen .

We don't go every year, almost every 2 years so this year is a "on" year. We usually do one big, a smaller vacation and then a adult trip for just DH and I. Next year we will be more low key and then planning a disney cruise/trip in summer of 2016.

Yes, we are skipping Disney this year. We have gone multiple times a year since 2008.

FP+ is the main reason, but increasing prices with declining value is another reason. We can afford the increases, but I am choosing to spend my vacation dollars elsewhere.

We can only go once this year. The reason is an out of state wedding we will be attending. We will extend out stay after the wedding and vacation in the area. We had planned to visit the area in the next couple of years. The wedding gave us the chance to do it this year.

Not skipping completely, but cutting my trips down considerably. I normally go to Disneyland 4-5 times a year, but now it's down to 1. I know this is different than WDW since DL is more commuter accessible, but figured my reasons for cutting back are probably similar.

There are several reasons:
*it's getting expensive. I can't afford to take my whole family (5) like I used to
*my single trips (with friends/adult dd/sister) are fewer as it is getting harder for everyone to coordinate their plans and have the money to go
*I pay $1500/month now to help support my dad
*my kids are getting older and have larger expenses (Jr High grad trip, gymnastics team costs, etc)
*my dh wants to do something besides Disney
*it feels a little hedonistic to spend so much at Disney when there are greater needs in my family, community, and so on

We are booked right now. However it was to be a cheapie trip with just me and the kids becuase dh had to work. Then he got the vacation time. I booked a decent flight on the way down but the price coming back is insane.
Dh and I started to waffle this weekend. We've been 9 times in a little over 6 years. I'm just not feeling the excitement like I usually do and we started discussing putting vacation off until next winter when he has more time and we'll want to be somewhere warm much more.
With the prices, the fastpass+ debacle, and just the fact that we've been so much I am thinking it might be better to use the summer week we have to go to the cottage for free and maybe take a cruise in the winter with a few days at Universal.
I change my mind a lot but I don't think I should be trying to drum up excitement for something that costs so much money. I'm likely going to cancel.

We canceled. Primarily because it's simply gotten too expensive while service has been declining, an inverse relationship that hit its limit for us. FP+ was just adding insult to injury, so to speak. Not because we object to only getting 3 of them, but because it's extended standby lines for everything. WDW is now the most expensive place to stand in line worldwide.

Starting back in '09 we used to visit at least once a year. At the time they were doing the military promotion where active duty military received a free 4 day ticket and family tickets were $100. We had so much fun and lived so close we ended up buying Annual tickets the last year we went. Plus the military tickets were becoming less of a deal. We stayed on property every visit in at least a moderate hotel, and used the dinning plan.

I would LOVE to go back and visit we haven't been since '12. We moved up the east coast so it's a 14 hour drive. Between the 11 hour additional drive and the prices I think it will be a few more years before we visit again. Right now with tickets and a hotel alone it would be over $1,000 for 3 of us for four days.

We decided to switch it up this year and head to Disneyland instead of WDW.

For me, at least, I can't find a vacation that's as easy as Disney. I still have a young child (almost 6) and while we do go other places (we've been to DC several times, we did New England a few summers ago) Disney can't be beat for convenience and fun for all ages in my mind.

I was never a huge FP person. We rarely used them so FP+ I think will be great for me!!

That said, I think we will start cutting down on Disney trips because there is a lot more of the world to see and now my son is getting to an age where he'll remember more!

We decided to skip WDW last year and this year so we could save up to go to Disneyland for the first time. We're leaving in 30 days and I'm so excited!! I missed my WDW trip but know it will be worth it when I step into Disneyland for the first time!

Cutting out WDW completely. We were yearly visitors, sometimes twice a year. Fast Pass + is the last straw. Other negative factors are increasing costs and the fact that we are a family of five.

I am not dissing Disney altogether though. My youngest and I are going to DL on our first Mommy and Me trip. He wants to see Carsland. I have only been to DL once and I am looking forward to going back.

We have a DCL cruise booked for later this year but I am going to cancel. After adding up all the costs, it is just too much money. A cruise still may be possible for us if I can find a good deal.

We have cut back on our DL trips. Used to go several times a year and always at least once per year. We haven't been since Oct 2012. Although we sneak in 2 days at WDW last year on our Orlando trip. Our reasons though have more to do with the fact that we want to take our kids other places. They may not vacation with us much longer now that they are getting older so we've just returned from Hawaii and next on the list is NYC.

Yes. We moved to AZ from CA so it's no longer feasible to visit Disneyland on a whim. The silver lining is that we've put off a big trip to WDW since we had easy access to DL, so we're saving for a 2015 WDW trip. I have to admit I feel a little lost without my "vacation on demand" but I guess all good things must come to an end.

Yes, we are skipping. In part due to the uncertainty surrounding FP+ (though we were a test family on our visit in October, but it was less restrictive then), and in part due to the decreasing value of a visit.

I'll give it another year or two and see what goes on, but I'm sure I'll be back eventually.
