I have been begging my DH to let us return to DW and he finally gave in  but I need y'all's help! We went last year, 10 in the group and stayed at BC for 7 days. Had the perfect trip, but went hard and fast the whole time. This time it will be 6 of us, my parents, 3 DS's (11 and 8) and I, (DH can't make it.) So... do we stay at the cabins at FW with FQSD for 5 nights on 5/28 or do we make it longer, staying off-site the second week of June? (I have been trying to plan, but my great aunt passed away this week and I have been in charge of her funeral, so I would appreciate the help.)
TIA! You guys are the best.

Congrats on DH giving in..and that you all get to return back to Disney...on the other note, sorry to hear about the death in your family.

I am of no help as to where to stay...I am still waiting on our first trip...but I am sure whatever you decide will be perfect

I always opt for staying onsite...it is a must for me. We have tried offsite, because DH wanted to, and we later vowed that we wouldn't do that again. In my opinion, it completely breaks the magic. But, then again I am the type of person that loves the theming of WDW more than the actual parks. I would shorten my trip and stay onsite anyday.
Good luck, and have loads of fun!

Kteesmumma, Thank you for the kind words, hope you get to DW soon.

momof2boys, Thanks for the input.

I am still going back and forth. I think we have decided to stay at the cabins, so we can come and go as we please, (DM is still not back to full strength from knee surgery.) But the prices of staying off-site are sooo tempting. Planning this trip has been a much needed distraction.

I always stay onsite now. We stayed offsite once and it wasn't worth it.

JMHO of course.

Good Luck and have fun! I'm sorry about your Aunt.

I'm adding to the question. For those of you who stay on site, do you rent a car?

I vote onsite and looking at renting a villa either directly from Disney or from a DVC Member.

I pesonally only think a car rental is necessary if you like to go eat or visit different resorts on property. It took us around 2 hours to get from Beach Club to Old Key West last trip and we have vowed never again without a rental car. We love eating at different resorts.

We don't rent cars when we fly.

We do often drive but that being said, we don't drive to any of the parks. We rely on Disney buses and boats. I have no complaints.

I am all for staying onsite. there is just something magical about the 24/7 experience. I have a friend who prefers offsite to be able to get away from all things Disney. If your DM is still having knee issues, it may be better to stay on property 'cause then she can go back "home" and everyone else can stay in a park. If you are off property, then everyone would need to leave if DM needs to go rest or ice her knee. We always drive to WDW and usually don't rely on Disney transportation. After it took 2 hours to get from POFQ to WL for dinner one night, I was out with the disney transportation for dining at other resorts. If you are doing the QSDP and won't be dining at other resorts, then a car wouldn't be necessary. The cost of an occasional cab ride (if needed) would be much less than the cost of a rental car for the week.

Can you stay on-site and not go Mem Day weekend? Can you all fit into a family suite at a value or two rooms? I ask because my friends stayed at the cabins last year. Great place , but you do realize that you have to take the internal bus to the park busses/boats, right? Unless you rent a golf cart, which than may make the 2 rooms at a value seem better.

I love staying on site but the cabins without a car...that doesn't seem like fun to me.

I would try to see how much renting a 2br villa from a DVCer would cost.

I think all your advice is making our decisions harder, LOL! We will have a car, but really don't like driving once on-site. I think we have decided to stay on-site, just trying to decide what resort. I am worried about all the walking and travel involved in staying at the cabins plus the lack of CS would leave us cooking quite a bit. I don't know if we will be able to book 2 rooms since the PIN is in my name and DH is not going. Do you think 2 rooms at the POP would be better than the Family Suite?
Thanks again for all the wonderful advice!
