I just got the letter requesting my renewal of my DVC discounted annual pass. It expires on January 27th and we will be in WDW at OKW from January 11-17. I have decided not to renew it this year. I think the economy, as well as timing play a role in my decision, since I have no plans for any trips after the January trip.

I was just wondering if some other DVC annual passholders are also reconsidering renewal. We have also been spending fewer days in the parks and more days in the resorts, lately. I will sure miss my DDE card, though!

No, not renewing. We bought our APs sort of "off cycle" for the way we travel as we went unexpectedly for our 10th anniversary in mid-June this year. We got that trip, plus our trip the week before Thanksgiving out of them and we have another week planned for early May. However, we probably won't go again until November or December, so we'll just buy new passes then. I'd rather spend the extra money (about $50-$60?) on a new pass and have its use year fit our expected travel patterns a little better.

If money was the driver, I'm not sure what I'd do. But then again, what we save in dining with our TIW card seems to make having an AP worth it, especially since our TIW card doesn't expire until NEXT December.

We will always have at least one AP between my DH and me as we need that DDE card. The savings we get on it pay for the card many many times over as we eat dinner at Signature restaurants every night and also many times for lunch.

That said, we have both had APs for a few years now. I have to look at 2009 to see if it makes sense for one of us to use the 10 day parkhopper passes that I have in our family ticket "inventory".

Hard to say -- but we are leaning towards not renewing. Our current passes expire 2 days into our January visit. We'll be carrying a set of prepaid AP vouchers ... but will likely seek "non-park" activities for the few days we aren't tied up with the conference.

My Birthday is the 1st day after our current APs expire -- but we don't expect to use the "free ticket" to visit the park if only one of us can go in. (Besides, it is one of the longest days of our conference ... if all goes well we should be busy, busy, busy from 7A-11P.)

We have never renewed our DVC APs. Unless we went every other month, it is not cost effective. What am I talking about! We have only had 1 AP since the new DVC AP discount! They are so expensive, we don't use them any more. We have just gotten back to our Universal Studios APs and frequent their parks when we want some extra park days. Otherwise, we just go into WDW 1 or 2 days when we stay at DVC. All in all, we always have a great time, regardless.;)

Just got ours. We added up how many days for this month we're going plus next year, and it's more cost-effective for us to have AP's rather than hoppers. It's my christmas present :woohoo:

Nope, I don't renew because the 3+ trips/year are months apart. It's cheaper to time my trips so that I get the last trip at the beginning of the expiration month (sometimes up to the last day :thumbsup2 ), and then wait those months in between before starting a new cycle. This is what my late DH and I always did and I plan on continuing doing the same. :goodvibes

We never renew our PAPs. It works out to our advantage to get new ones about every other year.

Mine expired in early October 2008.

It was not renewed. I will buy a new one next week. The renewal only makes sense to me if I am going to go right back. Since there was over a 60 day gap between visits (and I was not sure I was going to be pull this trip off... could still collapse LOL!) So....it makes no sense to do the renewal. I go enough to get my money's worth out of it.

We don't have APs but are considering them for this first time. Just trying to figure our vacations to make them pay.

No as we are not planning on going back to WDW, after February, until Oct 2010, as have alot of other vacations planned :) I always like to get 2 x 10+ day trips out of each AP.

Claire ;)

We never renew and we always plan at least two trips per AP year. In the past found it a better value to let the pass expire and buy new. I don't like paying for months that I am not there. :thumbsup2

I usually do but I can't for 2009. I am not going again until 2010. This will be the first time not renewing inabout 4 years. :sad2:

Definitely...always do, since they first became available. Though I use the FL resident discounted pass rate, which I believe works out a bit better (I never remember which thing is the best, so when I am buying anything at Disney, I usually throw my DVC card, FL license, Disney Visa, Magic Kingdom Club, old e-tickets, or anything else I have lying around at them...and take whichever is the best discount! ;)

Of course, it's economically sound for me, as I go to Disney 35-40+ days a year - already bought the DVC, can bring food to the villas, and it only costs a tank of gas there-and-back...so the AP makes perfect sense. When I divide in the DVC cost and annual AP renewal against the number of days I stay there annually, it's a whole heck of alot cheaper than buying the passes and paying for hotels. It's what made the DVC and AP decisions so easy. Over the past 12 years, I'm now averaging in the vicinity of $80 per day total cost, including the villa and park entries. Each year that goes by, that average cost goes down. So I've already paid off my DVC investment - without even factoring in various discounts for food and purchases along the way!

If you lived far away and can only make it to Disney a few days or a week out of the year, you'd really have to weigh the AP cost against what the actual ticket cost would be to buy passes for your stay...then I could see a reason why not to renew. Makes me happy to be living so reasonably close to WDW!

My AP expires the end of May. For 2009 I am planning on going in June and Dec and then again in May of 2010. It will be worth it for me to renew.

We MAY renew our PAP's but since Pleasure Island, i.e. Adventurer's Club, is out, it may be just an AP.

We renewed in September, and will most likely renew this September. We use the TIW card a lot!

Same here, we got the PAP's last year for the single purpose of the Adventurers club but with that gone I don't see the need to go with a full PAP this year. We have never gone to a water park and the other offering on the PAP are useless to us.

Same here. With the parks at less than 90 mins, we do use them. Oh, lets go and see Fantasmic this weekend, sure, just hope in the car and we are in.
