Are you reconsidering your plans for January & February 2022?

Imho…I ve canceled our Jan Trip. TheOnly other time I have Ever canceled a Disney Trip in over 30 continuous years of multi year visits was During the First surge of Covid. This was not based on the Increase COVID to the area, nor the Hotspot designation there along with our own area increases!
Disney has Changed, and sadly, it’s not for the Better. the Amount of Hoops one has to go thru to actually Enjoy a ( previously Magical, mostly relaxed, escape to the Happiest Place on Earth) is simply Inexcusable.
It saddens me …to my soul. No drama just based in Reality of the Current Management Team who is Ultimately Responsible for All the Changes, breakdowns, multitude of Xtra costs, and a myriad of other factors thrust upon its Guests.
At one point in time there was a feeling of Value in Visiting and being Immersed in Walt’s Vision. Where I felt confident in my Choice to share our family and our Income. No more.
It’s difficult, no Impossible for me to Justify a Visit despite being able to Afford the Same Type Trip of years past at the
Overinflated, Undeserved Costs ( accommodation /food/ride access/ experiences) and Most Important, almost Complete Lack of Customer Service. The Trip Reports are Abundant with Complaints including our own extended two families that visited in the last several mos and were Very Unhappy …saying they are Done :(
So, I canceled with no plan for returning anytime soon.

Add to that..last evening, literally close to 3.5 HOURS in the online Chat line Waiting for Clarification regarding our cancellation. Disney, that’s Disgraceful.
I do get canceling due to costs being so high and what you get now for that price is so cut back. And things not working....IT. And customer service being lacking now. So I get not wanting to waste money on a crap product especially with all the other issue with covid. May not be worth it for some folks.

It took me almost two years to get up the courage to visit Florida again with all the dire warnings coming out of DC. I'm over 65. We visited during Food & Wine in November, walked among at least 8000 unmasked people in EPCOT and flew home exhausted but healthy. I stopped worrying and my BP came back to normal.

Now we have a trip coming up in late January and the warning out of DC are all over again re Omicron. So now in a wait and watch mode. If I cancel, Member Services told me we lose all our points which are booked from 2021 (Feb use year).

For those of you planning a trip soon, are you also in a wait and watch mode or is it just me and my paranoia?

We cancelled all of our trips to DL/WDW in 2020. We mainly let the younger generation use any points that were scheduled to expire in 2020. Right after we got our vaccinations, we made a car trip to Vero Beach in May.
I have gone 2X DL and 2X WDW since Sept. We really had to think long and hard about the last trip to DL (12-17 Dec), but we still went.
I don't know what to say about the Omicron factor. I don't know where you are traveling from, but would a car trip to Hilton Head or Vero Beach be practical (and make you feel more comfortable)? I hate to think about losing points.

I'm vaxxed and boostered, so if I were in your position, I'd likely go but would take precautions. If I were not vaccinated (I'm 61) I would likely not go. It's a crap shoot whether I'd catch it or not, and the risk of death, long term illness, or even contributing to the spread seems not worth it to me.

We are arriving on 12/30. We are all vaxxed and boosted and will be taking precautions with masks, hand washing, etc. I have no problem wearing a mask outside. If I'm still uncomfortable b/c of the crowd and lack of mask wearing, I'll leave and hang out at the resort.

If it can help you decide, during my trip that ended last week, Disney has been quite good at enforcing the mask mandate indoor, everywhere except in restaurants.

At Universal, while there are notices and announcements saying masks are recommended, few people wear them indoor (I'd say 5-10%).

Outdoor almost no one wear masks.

I was in WDW last week as well and observed the same.

Our family returned from a weeklong visit, masked up, sometimes ate indoors but mostly outdoors, and tested negative twice after getting home. I'm thankful we were ok while in Disney.

That said, we returned to NJ/NYC, and to Omicron. I'm vaxxed, boosted, and still caught it at the office from a vaxxed and boosted colleague.

Symptoms are mild (like an annoying cold, thankfully). I'm not saying this to change anyone's plans (and frankly, I'm grateful my family spent a great week together after such a long time apart). Just to factor in any isolation time as a possible risk of catching this thing - it's super transmissible.

Have a 3 year old at home so we cancelled a Jan trip with her. We figured the likelihood of a very bad outcome is low for all of us, but didn't want to risk it for our little one (nor potentially deal with a mandatory 2-week daycare closure). Keeping the Feb Run Disney weekend on the books though as it's adults only and we've had the booster. We're hoping it dies down by then,

We have a mid-Feb trip planned with friends, all are vaccinated and boosted, and we have as a group been more cautious than most we know throughout this, not eating at restaurants or going into stores unless needed, and that is since it began through today. But our kids are over 5 and have been vaccinated now, our family has all been as well. I work at home and my wife works at home 2 out of 5 days, and will be allowed to WAH for two weeks after we return to be extra safe.

So far... news of Omicron has been as good as we can get, an increase in spread by the variant, but not a corresponding increase in hospitalizations (as a percentage of positive cases of Delta vs Omicron). Our booster was Moderna also which they recently found that Moderna boosters show good antibody creation against Omicron.

We will keep an eye on how things develop though. I think we just have to cancel before the 30 day window for our points to not go in holding, if I recall correctly (this will be our first trip since joining DVC so still remembering the rules). So we have a little more time to back out if the news starts looking more dire for Omicron than some of the early reports.

Like many, I pretty much put life on hold for about a year, skipping weddings and family gatherings, and not traveling. And at the time, it was the right decision for me, as some in attendance at those gatherings did turn up testing positive. But, I am fully vaccinated, and boosted, and I feel safe enough getting out again. I went to Disney over Thanksgiving week. It was very busy. If I am in a large group of people. or at a park, I mask up. My feeling is to protect yourself the best you can, and then live life.

We spent 3 1/2 weeks at VB last January and have a month planned split between VB, SSR and HHI beginning Jan 6. No parks, just walking, swimming, enjoying warmer weather. Don't plan to cancel. We also are booked on WBPC in March and planning to go as of now. Hoping Omicron peaks fast and then dives as it is seemingly doing in Africa. We are 67 & 70, vaxed and boosted. Wear masks everywhere. Just hoping things go well.

That month sounds delightful, and the WBPC does too! Have a great time!

We're still holding firm on going this January. Crowd level is our big issue but it looks like January should be lower than December. We cancelled October but then we really didn't think we'd deal with the heat as the winter is better for us. Looking forward to Disney and a few days at UO.

Unfortunately covid is becoming endemic and will never go away. We have a trips to WDW booked every month and have been going since DVC resorts reopened and have no plans to cancel. We have all been vaccinated and if we need to keep hiding away then what was the point of the vaccine?
Every month? I need to know, how many points do you have

We just got back and have another trip planned for Feb. Unless the border closes again or some very deadly variant comes about, we will be going. We are vaccinated and boosted. We eat outdoors, mask all day in and out doors, bath in sanitizer. It's still better than hanging out at home or at work.

I wouldn't cancel and I am in my 70's with no relevant health problems.
Life is too short to stop living and doing what gives you joy.
But everyone has to make up their own minds on that.
I know many vaxxed to the max people who have gotten covid anyway.

Whenever we travel anywhere crowded or to theme parks, we know the risk factor of getting an illness is always there. Even without covid and it's variants, people bring with them various flu bugs, illnesses, diseases. There's no way to stop that,, so we are just aware when we travel, especially to disney with all it's various cultures and areas of the country.
One of us always gets sick on the last day at disney, always. We just accept it, even though is no fun.
How can disney, or any other park, keep the handrails clean all the time, or bathrooms, or anywhere you might put your hands? It's impossible. We just use sanitizer, wash hands, and try to be careful where we touch.
So, knowing the risk factors at any crowded area, you have to make your own choices. For us, we will continue to travel and take our usual precautions (ones we did before covid).

We have 2 cruises on the dream in 3 weeks, followed by a visit to the MK. No plans of cancelling. Not worried at all - ready to sail :)
