Are you planning your Thanksgiving yet?

Did someone say 'garlic'? Lets hear it, barkley! :)
This one is called Killer Bread:

History:
Wonderful bread that is served at Swan Court Cafe at the Embassy Suites in Napa, CA.

I tried for years to get them to give me the recipe and they refused. At one point, my best friend's mother called me and told me to pick up that month's Gormet Magazine. Someone had written in to the magazine and asked if they could get the recipe. For some reason the resturant that had refused me for so many years was more than happy to have it published nationwide.

Ingredients:

1 cup Mayonaise
1 cup Freshly grated Parmasian Cheese (don't even think of using the green can stuff)
2-3 cloves minced or crushed garlic
1 lb round French bread
1/2 tsp Fresh choped basil

Steps:

Cut bread in half to make 2 circles.
Butter the bread and put under the broiler to toast.
Mix maynoaise, cheese and garlic and spread on toasted bread.
Place bread back under the broiler and broil until top is brown and bubbly.
Garnish with chopped basil.
Cut into wedges and serve immediatley.
Serving size - 1-2 pieces.
Serves 6-8 people

THAT sounds awesome! Thanks for posting the recipe, I am printing it out now. :)

Yes because we will be in WDW!!!!

alice's mom-have you ever tried bread pudding made from pumpkin bread? yum-awsome!

Yes I have, and I totally didn't think about it, thanks, need to add it to the list!

We are going to spend the day at my parents so I don't really have to do much more than just show up! :)

We started a family tradition a few years ago and we now spend our Thanksgiving at The Hotel Hershey. It's so beautiful there and they do lots of fun things for families. The best part is that instead of cooking I can enjoy time at the spa there. Oh, and the free chocolate everywhere isn't bad either.

We will be at Walt Disney World.

Its just the 5 of us. We always go to church in the morning and I am buying a small turkey and doing a little shopping on fri. and then packing sat. and we are off to Disney Sunday Morning, Hooray!!

I'll be in Vegas Baby!
Really looking forward to my first holiday away from home.

I don't plan anything this far ahead except for vacations. That said I know my SIL will insist on doing dinner at her house. If she could cook and if she made enough food for everyone, it might be enjoyable...but my kids don't want to go, but dh doesn't want to go and the only reason we go is so we don't upset MIL. They always invite my Mom, but she won't go because she can't stand going there either. So, I usually don't see my Mom on holidays, except for Christmas day.

I am so NOT looking forward to it at all.

Yes--it involves driving to Atlanta to see a new nephew who is due precisely 1 week before Thanksgiving! I'm sure we will help cook or something since mommy will be...a little busy with her new son...or busy trying to have him.

Have been thinking about it, actually. We usually have Thanksgiving at our house - somewhere between 12-17 family. DH loves to cook and I say more power to him. :goodvibes

No, but my nice DSIL is all up inarms about it already because her crazy sister may be coming. As soon as word gets out that the kook may be coming to town (she lives 1500 miles away than God!!!) my DH's whole family gets in a spin. The nice DSIL & the crazy one are twins, and there is so much animosity and issues and "stuff" from when they were growing up that it's unbelieveable.

I have mine already planned and have not shared with anyone except DH , DD and God Mother! :teeth: I have decided to have a nice quite family only Holiday! I am not going to have anything to upset me this year! If no one esle likes it to bad! This is now my new family tradition!
:goodvibes

Oh how I can relate to your story!!!

Good for you!!!!

Today is my 18th wedding anniversary and over the years we have tried MANY different options during the hoildays ...but my in-laws have never been satisfied with any of them!

At one point Thanksgiving was 'MY" hoilday (in their way of thinking)...I once cooked for 24 when I was very pregnant......... My family has always done different things during the holiday..we actually talk to each other and figure what is best for everyone ....
so then since I did not cook on Thanksgiving for a couple of years it was no longer "my" holiday and they all seem to have forgotten how my dh and I used to move furniture and go crazy to accomodate everyone..its like that never happened...

now I have a crazy SIL who has been doing Thanksgiving for a couple of years...well she has decided to x my family and is not talking to us....PSYCHO!!!

So we are having Thanksgiving at home and I am looking forward to it also....
but I also understand about the hurt.....eventhough It will be great I still hate that underlying feeling I have since I don't think family should be like that at all....

If I had not "changed" the holidays throughtout the years..I know I would have had one like you mentioned....just having a transplant (I have A kidney disease) and having to cook for the selfish bunch.....

Enjoy your holiday and continued good wishes for your healing!!

Carol

PS I love your menu..ours will be simple and traditional also..I probably will add a veggie I like to make for thanksgiving it's some mixed veggies with bernaise sauce rolled in Phyllo dough...yummy and it looks neat HAHA

So maybe its a blessing that my "crazy " Sister in Law has x'd us from her life?!?!?! :confused3 :smooth:

we will be traveling to St.Louis to my aunt and uncle's house for dinner ........ I do Easter dinner and last year asked her to switch... :rolleyes1 :badpc: oh boy.....bad idea-she went crazy...sent my mom a letter...we won't be able to see you on any holiday this year and we won't exchange gifts....as long as she get's her way she's just fine-so we will go there for turkey day :rotfl:

Last year we went to the Hershey Lodge the day after Thanksgiving for a youth hockey tournament...it was wonderful....the christmas decor was up and they had so many activities..the boys LOVED the scavenger hut throughout the resort (I wonder if the Lodge has recovered from that one yet?) :rotfl:

And the lobby with those comfy couches and quad fireplaces....so cozy...a great way to begin the holiday season!!!!

Yes, I'm all planned (and have been).

Turkey w/gravy
Cranberry sauce
Stuffing
Turnip
Brussel Sprouts
Asparagus
Home made Cranberry Bread

Apple Pie w/home made pumpkin ice cream

Think that's about it.....but could always add more.

My Sister and I have started to plan. Our Aunt is coming for a visit from England and it will be her very first Thanksgiving so we are really doing it up!
There will be 7 kids between 4 and 16 years old and 10 adults. We are making pilgrim hats for everyone and turning her house into turkeyville!

Appetizers:

Veggie Tray
Chips and Dips
Cheese Tray

Dinner:
Turkey
Ham
Mashed Potatoes
Roasted Potatoes
Doofers (aka Yorshire Pudding)
Corn on the cob
green beans
baby cabbages

Desert:

Chocolate Fondue
Pies
Maybe a turkey cake (I'm not sure I'll have time to make it though)

:wizard: That's it!
