I try NOT to be rude, crude or evil but in person I can be the meanest person you ever met. Ask my son!!

I have a heart for people, though, and try to understand others and since I'm not insecure, no, I don't like to deliberately hurt anyone. I think only hurting people hurt people and I'm not a hurting person...not anymore.

I'm honest, sincere and blunt to a fault, I'm also loyal to those who I care about. If that makes me mean, so be it.

I think I'm nice. I have never gone after anyone...first. I will stick up for myself & sometimes I feel the need to come to the defence of others.

I also never start post that would lead myself open to attacks. I do not discuss my personal life. I do not ask advice on major things. I have had my feelings hurt & felt the need to respond to some not nice behavior that has gone on.

Now the down side of that is I do not open myself up to know people better. I play on the surface here.

This is something I'm curious about though. What was your purpose in starting this thread? The way you've replied to some of the posts, like the reply I've quoted above, make it sound as if you are putting yourself in the position to decide who is mean and who isn't and it seems that some of the posters here (possibly myself included) feel obligated to explain ourselves to meet your standard of "not mean".

"Mean" is a subjective term. There are some people who might think I am mean, and I wouldn't really care. In fact, I might consider it a badge of pride. If Neo-Nazis or KKK members, for example, considered me "mean" for disagreeing with them, I'd be more than happy to carry the mantle of mean.

And, I think one more thing that can make someone come across as "mean" is when they continually post their opposing views right after your post! You start to feel like they are following you, when in fact, it's all in the timing.

Your reply and quoting of me has me perplexed as well. Are you suggesting that I follow you around for the purpose of arguing with you? "Continually posting opposing views right after your post" would most likely mean that the other poster is interested in the same subject, but holds an opposing viewpoint.

For the record, I seldom pay attention to anyone's user name, and do not choose threads based on who has already posted there.

To me, the meanest people of all are the ones who act nice and then are mean behind your back -- people who just hang around, waiting for someone to say something they can mock so they can run back to their little friends to yuck it up about them.

It gets super disgusting when it happens online.

I've been called mean on this board - but I've usually just been giving my honest opinion and really not trying to be mean -- I just wish sometimes people would put a disclaimer in their posts if they don't want to hear the truth - "I'd like your opinion, but only if you agree with me" - or something like that would be very helpful!

I think that some people think that I am mean because I am a straight shooter. I don't dilly-dally or beat around the bush when I have something to say. Sometimes I don't agree with the majority of posters on a thread and will still post my opinion. I think that I was recently called a "Negative Nellie" on a thread like that because I wasn't all hugs, prayers and pixie dust.

I actively try not to hurt people's feelings and I have apologized in the past for doing so. I have also edited posts before others can get to them to quote me .

I think the thing is... (your daughter?) is so adorable, that her face is the last thing I think of after I read your posts!!!! I get easily distracted by beauty...

I am blunt, and I speak the exact same way in real life that I do here. I have been told by someone on this board I am mean, but I have also have had people tell me that I say things nicely, so "meanness" seems to be in the eye of the beholder.

Same here. But I do have a pet peeve: posters who harshly reply but cry foul if an answer to his/her post is made with the same tone.
