...by phone? I'm not, but people seem to expect it, and get exasperated, i.e., "I couldn't reach you on your home phone OR your cell phone!"

I don't answer my phone when I'm doing patient care at work (some people do, though! ), when I'm in the bathroom, when I'm in the middle of a meal, when I'm out with friends, etc. Yes, I admit it, the telephone is not my #1 priority!

Anybody else??

I don't really answer my phone and home and my cell phone is usually off when I go out so yeah not a big priority to me either. I'll get your message eventually and then if I want to talk to you I'll call you back.

I've been known to answer my phone when I'm in the shower. :rotfl:

Me too...My friend called me this morning and I missed her call and when I called her back I told her that I was in the bathroom when she called and she just laughed and said, "it's not like you've NEVER talked to me from the bathroom before!!" :rotfl2:

NO!

I hate talking on the phone. I don't even check my messages very often. I frustrate people.

However, I do answer my cell phone. Only select people have that number (my kids' schools, my parents, DH, DS, DD), so I don't want to keep any of them waiting.

I'm usually pretty easy to reach. 40 hours a week I'm a receptionist, so I can't get away from the damn phone even when I want to!

I do try to be easily accessible in case DD's daycare needs to call me for whatever reason.

I am laughing WITH you because that's me too. I take my phone everywhere. Since I am a Realtor, I have my website programmed to text me when I have a new lead. Those seconds count as the lead could get snapped up by someone else.

When I was in HR, I would get calls at all hours (because our Company was a 24-hour operation.) People were always amazed when they rang me at 2 am and I sounded like I was wide awake! :rotfl: I also had my crackberry with me on the beach in Hawaii. Sad.

So the short answer is "yes!"

Everybody in the world has my cell phone #--I do always answer or check my message ASAP if it's DH. I tried the "select people" having my cell phone # when I first got it, but ended up having to use it at my last job since I traveled back and forth between two sites and was rarely at my desk at either site. I even gave it out to patients because it was easier than having them have me paged. So now my cell phone # is even posted on the bulletin board at work because it's the easiest way to reach me!

Maybe I need a second cell phone... :sunny: I bet there are people who have 2 cell numbers--their "public" and "private" numbers!

My grandma and a couple of my friends get absolutely frantic if they can't reach me by phone. "I tried your house phone, I tried your cell, I couldn't reach you!" Uuum....ok. Leave me a message. I'll call ya back. :confused3

Yes, but only because I don't have a life! Between work and home, you can reach me from 6 AM until 10 PM (otherwise I'm asleep, fortunatly no one calls past 10 and unless it was DH calling from work -he's on nights- I wouldn't answer anyway).

I'm that person who is never available., leave a message and i'll call you back...might take 20min might take a day....but i will get back to you....what drives me crazy is people who call three/four times and don’t leave a message...then say didn’t you see my missed calls :confused3 ...

We screen our calls so the machine picks them all up. I do enjoy when my brother, niece or nephews call because they know I am screening so they have to keep talking to give me time to get to the phone.

I never drop what I'm doing to answer the phone. My DH will run in from outside, stop eating dinner, get out of the shower. etc. to answer the phone, but not me. If I don't feel like talking on the phone, I won't go near it. I also keep my cell phone turned off a lot of the time. So, no, I'm almost never immediately available by phone. I love voice mail & caller ID!

I'm pretty much available except when in the bathroom 7am-10pm... my cell phone goes crazy...if its not business, its my dh, mom or sister calling... constantly!! It seems like my dh, mom and sister all try to call me at the same time. I think it's a conspiracy :ssst: ;)

I figure that my phones are for my conviennce. People get annoyed with me b/c I don't always answer. I check my messages and immediately return emergency messages but the rest can wait till I sit down and make calls. Honestly, what did we all do before cell phones and answering machines. Somehow we all survived. Phones vex me in general

I hate that people think you should be readily available or that you are ignoring them if you don't answer your cell. I switched from Nextel because DH would 'chirp' me and just start talking. I hated it!!!!

My company wants all of us to carry cell phones and they even provide them so they can reach us after hours if necessary. I get no end of amusement in the fact that it has an "off" button, and caller ID. :cool1:

I know so many people who simply cannot resist a ringing phone.
I feel that, compared to the phone company, Pavlov was an amateur.

I am a teacher so good luck trying to get ahold of me at work! lol

Honestly, I'm not a big fan of the phone so I can feel your pain!

Maybe I need a second cell phone... :sunny: I bet there are people who have 2 cell numbers--their "public" and "private" numbers!

We have the two phone lines and it works out very well. We each have a cell phone and then a main house line. We keep a second number for junk calls, spam, and basically anything 1-800 related. We go through a thousand minutes on our cell phone plan easily, about two thousand in free mobile-to-mobile, and at least a thousand night and weekend minutes. We use the cell phones much more than the home phone. In fact, he usually call forwards the main house line to his cell.

It depends...during school hours, I practically dive to answer the phone because I never know if it's the school calling (we don't have caller ID).

However, if I'm indisposed and can't get to the phone and they don't leave a message, I figure it wasn't that important.

I do answer my cell phone too because only a few people have it, 1 being the school if I'm out shopping during school hours, my DD & my DH. Really those would be the only people calling me (although occassionally a number will come up that says "Restricted" I have NO IDEA what that is but assume it's some telemarketer because the only ones I have gotten that have been times I didn't answer the phone.) 1/2 the time I don't even realize my cell phone is ringing as I'm not used to it, so I had to change it to vibrate & ring mode since I keep it in my pants pocket, I tended to miss calls from DH.

I guess the answer is, if I'm available I'll answer it, if I'm too busy & can't get to it, no big deal.
