Are you germophobic?

Imagine the bunnies from:

Hey, I have a dust bunny maker just like that. ;) I told DH yesterday that with all the dog hair I collect each week, I could knit several new dogs for us.

Now, imagine that, AND the fur from the other dog I posted... it is unbelievable! :scared1:

:lmao: Oh, yeah, I had a similar situation several years ago. I had a black & white dog and a tan dog. It didn't matter what color clothes I wore, the dog hair always showed. Right now, we're just sticking with this blonde girl. ;)

I'm not even a little, really. But yesterday I ran into a friend of mine at Dunkin' Donuts, and what he did totally caught me off guard. He got a hot coffee and waited for me to get my iced coffee. We went outside as we were ending our talk, and he reached in his car and got out a disinfecting wipe and wiped his coffee cup before drinking any! :)

Are you germophobic, and to what degree if you are?

On a scale of 0-10, I am a 0. I even kiss my dog on the lips.

I tend to notice that those I know who freak out easily regarding germs and use wipes for everything seem to be sick quite a bit more than us. I like being stress free.

Yeah because that's the way immunology works. One has to be exposed to something to develop immunities. And things like MRSA and other so called "superbugs" are pretty much things we've done to ourselves with the ridiculous overuse of antibacterials (oh and not finishing the prescribed amount of antibiotics, which is another subject). Good old fashioned hand washing is the best thing for you

I hate pot lucks. I hate the fact that I don't know how neat and clean the person that made it is. Did they lick the spoon and stick it back in the pot? Did they let raw meat touch the veggies? Did the food sit out too long? Did they wash their hands before they made it?

I was at a pot luck recently where one of the moms was talking about her son having diarrhea for the past two days. She was talking about changing his diaper and the mess it made and all I could think about was the food she brought to this event. Yuck!

I am a certified germaphobe for something like this but not so much with the other things mentioned. Public bathrooms do gross me out but I can usually avoid them on most days so it isn't an issue.

You better not go out to eat, then. You don't even want to know what goes on in the kitchens in restaurants. I'm so glad I don't stress out about things like this.

And I never got an answer before, so I'm asking again. To the people who won't sit on a public toilet, what are you afraid of catching?

I agree which is why I rarely go out to eat! :thumbsup2

I can't answer for everyone because my issue with public bathrooms isn't really a germ thing. I am not afraid of catching anything. I just think it is utterly gross to sit on something that other people have left their bodily fluids (or solids :scared:) on. People are total pigs in public restrooms and I don't want to touch what they have left behind. I do not think I will get aids, the flu or any communicable diseases from public restrooms. It is just a gross, smelly place that I try to avoid.

I hover, but I line the seat with double toilet paper before i hover to catch any drips..........LOL........then that goes down with the flush.
needless to say it takes me awhile if i have to pee in public. :)

and that's why our toilets at work are constantly clogged

oh and to all of those people who use their sleeves to touch things--ever thought about what your sleeve then touches? the germs just get transferred to that item, and then you touch it transferring the germs to your hands, where they would have been if you'd just opened the darn door!

THAT'S what's so bizarre to me!!!! Flame me if you will...but DH & I took on the care of my 80ish mother (who formerly smoked and lived to be 90) and I had a nephew & wife who refused to visit at our home because *I* smoked cigarettes at the time (mostly in the basement and outside). This was before they had children.

Now one child is diagnosed autistic, and the other is allergic to everything under the sun...I'm certainly NOT claiming underexposure to second-hand smoke leads to such conditions, but I DO question...is putting kids in a bubble in regards in immunity-building a good idea?!?

Not for nothing but some people just think smoking is gross and don't want to be around it. FTR- autism has nothing to do with keeping a clean environment. It is a completely separate issue. Not flaming so please don't take it that way.

As for us. We wash hands a lot. I have the gels in case we can't wash hands but I don't use them a lot. We walk barefoot, my kids always have to use the bathroom when we are out and yes it grosses me out. We don't do buffets unless it is WDW where I can block out why I skeeve them. :cutie: I used to be insane about germs and dirt and now it doesn't bother me nearly as much.

I couldn't agree more. Purell must be rolling in the dough these days.

Now that you mentioned it, my company has started putting bottles of this EVERYWHERE! We have about 50 desks on the floor I work on, and I bet there are 25 bottles of Purell, and 10 boxes of wipes, and cans of Lysol are also all over the place.

Kind of ridiculous, if you ask me.

yes, i am - even in church - that "peace be with you" section of the mass? - no more handshaking for me - i give a little wave or a smile
