If so, what languages do you speak and how did you learn your second language?

I speak English and Spanish. I am Hispanic...my grandparents were born & raised in Bolivia so Spanish was their first language. I learned most of it through them...and some I learned in high school.

I learned Spanish growing up in California. I took it in school, but I learned most of my spoken skills from people I grew up around. My grammar could use some work, but I can read and write well enough to converse.

I speak spanish. I am a first generation U.S Citizen in my whole family. My parents, grandmother, uncles and aunt were born and raised in Mexico. They immigrated here in the 1960's. I learned to read, write and speak spanish at the same time that I learned English.

I'm not but I should be after listening to my son learn Spanish, Chinese and Japanese languages. I think I know more Spanish words of the three languages. Once he got into tenses I'm lost. I've helped him study many, many hours throughout the years but it just seems to go in one ear and out the other. Good thing he doesn't take after me!

Italian was my first language since my family immigrated from Italy. Spanish I learned in HS--it was easy since it was so similar to Italian.

I speach English and American :lmao: . If you think there is no difference ask one of our British friends on this board.

Edited to add
I also understand cat:
Meow: feed me!
Meow: pet me
Meow: let me out
Meow: don't touch me
Meow Meow Meow: pet me now!
Meow Meow Meow Meow: feed me now!
Hissssss!: I mean it, Don't touch me!! :teeth:

So true! :rotfl:

I'm not fluently bilingual, but I can speak, to varying amounts:
- Real English
- American English ;) :teeth:
- Welsh
- French
- Spanish
I started learning Japanese... don't know what happened to that!

My cousin is truly multilingual. Her first two languages were English and Afrikaans, and she also speaks Portuguese, Spanish and (now) Welsh. She's probably learning French too. She's about 14yrs old.

Not really just American English ( I went to England in highschool) and Toddler.

But I really should learn Spanish again. We have a large community of workers from Mexico here that can't speak English. It would be nice to be able to speak Spanish.

I speak English and I know enough of the southren states language to oder food when Im down there :rotfl: , teasing you people down there, ya all talk sexy ;)

I was.. I went to Greek school as a child and moved to Greece for a year when I was 8. Had the whole 1 room schoolhouse and no english was spoken. I had a hard time speaking english when I came back. Well 24 years later and I lost most of it.. I can still understand alot but its hard to speak.

My hubby is Puerto Rican and you would think after being married for 13 years I could speak it. The kids can speak it and I uderstand a little.

I speak both English and French. I started learning French in high school. I was also a French major in college.

English, Spanish and Italian,
i am a native English speaker.

I speak southern-american-english and I can read a good bit of spanish, but I can't write it. I picked up the spanish because my town has a high immigration rate and a lot of only spanish speaking people imigrate here from mexico, so I've picked it up just by living here. I'm taking french in school right now. My accent is getting in the way a little though.

Thanks for all the responces.

Hablo espanol. I'd say I'm conversant but not fluent. I took it for six years in junior high/ high school... It was my favorite class. :) I had the same teacher for several years and he was great. Thank You Sr. Poto. :)

Yesterday I had to go to the hospital for an xray and the only magazine in the waiting area was in Spanish...it was PADRES (Parents) magazine... I read several articles in SPanish and learned a whole new vocabulary... they did not teach me any palabras related to potty training when I was in high school.

Bien viaje...

Japanese and english for me.

I speak English.. I try to use proper English, but it usually ends us just being Pennsylvania Dutch English.. I'm 3rd generation Italian-American, so I can understand a bit of Italian because of my family and a lot of people at my church who are from Italy. I also took Latin for 4 years, so that helps because they're similar.
