No, but I am a limited Spanish speaker. I had some classes in high school that gave me a basic pronunciation and vocabulary bank, learned more about conjugations and texmex phrasing from my husband, expanded my vocabulary by teaching spanish speaking children in a dual language program, and continue to learn more by working with bilingual teachers.
I understand much more than I am comfortable saying. I sometimes mispronounce and often make grammatical errors. I think I would learn faster if I tried more, but I'm not a risktaker and prefer to keep my slight abilities under my hat.
My principal walked into my class yesterday when I was reading El Gato Ensombrerado. It was written bilingually, so the children wanted to hear it in both languages and it was chosen by a bilingual child (about 2/3 of my class also speaks Spanish). She was very impressed until I told her the words are all written for me!
