I know that people actually DO videotape Soarin, but I was wondering if you're allowed to. Does anyone know if there are any signs or announcements specifying not to videotape? I'd love to tape it, but I don't want to if I can't. Thanks!

If I remember correctly, in the pre-show video they do say no video taping and flash photography. but my memory has been known to be somewhat shoddy :lmao:

Absolutly not! They have been known on countless occations to stop the ride make you get off and some times escorted out of the park itself. Don't risk it.

This is considered piracy, just like if you were to take a video camera to a movie.

I wouldn't risk it either. Besides, none of the videos even come close to capturing the experience though the audio is nice.

Ok thanks. I was just looking around youtube, wondering how many of the ride videos are actually 'legal'. Definitely not going to risk it. Does anyone know if theres a list of rides you can/can't videotape?

You CAN videotape (no video LIGHTS) and NON-flash photograph nearly all shows and parades.

You CAN videotape (no video LIGHTS) and NON-flash photograph nearly all the rides.

Notable exceptions (no video or photographs) are Soarin', American Advernture, Hall of Presidents, Stitch's Great Escape, and Ellen's Energy Adventure.
Also, not a good idea on Dinosaur, RnR, or Space Mountain.
Too dark, fast, and it might be forbidden.

Sometimes CM's will be more... or less... tolerant on various attractions.

Rule of thumb: If the CM or the recorded spiel or signs say "No," then don't.
Otherwise, its OK.

Never use flash INSIDE an attraction.

Its OK to use flash and record video (no video lights) during the Spectromagic parade, both Stunt shows, B&B Live, FotLK, IllumiNations, Wishes, and Fantasmic! (although flash won't do any GOOD at a long distance, anyway).

a. They aren't going to escort you out of the park.
b. They request it so you don't drop it on the person below you, not for copyright reasons.

Not sure about the escorting thing... but i was just there a couple of weeks ago and i took video of these rides: (i always left my video screen closed so that i never bothered anyone.)

-Soaring (cm saw me have my video, and she said nothing)
-Test Track (ride and preshow as well)
-Mission Space (ride and preshow as well, i was only asked to not video on the spinning one, i videoed the ride on the non-spinning version)
-Nemo Ride
-Splash Mnt
-POTC
-Expedition Everest
-RNR(ride and preshow as well)
-Tower of Terror (ride and preshow as well)
-Some of IASM

I think i did others, but i'm drawing a blank. If they told me i couldnt video, i followed the rules, like i said that only happened on the spinning Mission Space, in which i can understand why with all the G's that happening.

This taping is only for my personal enjoyment, i'm not posting the videos anywhere. This is just to tie me over till my next trip!! :)

In August, I noticed during HoP and AA that the CM didn't say no videotaping, only "no external video lighting." I asked the CM if that meant I could indeed tape the shows, and they said yes, as long as my screen was closed. Just to be sure I wasn't bothering anyone, I even put my finger over the little power light too.

When in doubt, just ask.

I was told no video lighting. That was just after it opened.

In June when we rode Soaring, I had my video camera hanging around my neck, when the CM came around to check the seat belts, he asked me to put it in the mesh bag under the seat. I didn't entend to tape it but I guess he wanted to make sure.

I really wish that they would more strickly enforce this rule. On every trip that I have taken to WDW and on my one Disney Cruise, I have sat behind people who were taping at shows and attractions. So many times, these people did have external lighting on. These people have no idea how it does affect the people behind them, or maybe they just don't care. Or worse yet, people who end up behind people taller than them will hold their cameras up in the air to tape over the person in front of them. What they don't realize, or again just don't care about, is that their camer and arm is then blocking our view totally. On our last trip to WDW, I asked the CM at The Little Mermaid attraction at MGM why she did not enforce the rule because the guy in front of us ruin the show for my little girl, and she said that there really is no way of enforcing it without stopping the show or causing a scene during the show and that would affect far more guests than the simple filming does. My DD was so upset that she could not see. We ended up having to use our valuable time in the park doing the show over.

actualy I work at VOLM as a performer. we have a real problem with the attraction cast members at times. Some of them don't do their job. But there are some really great ones there as well. They are suppose to nip that sort of stuff in the bud emidiatly. Now when flash pictures get out of hand. NO. but that wont happen if they would jump on the first person who does, That is why they are there in the room. So her saying there was nothing she could do is false. it's thier job. If you think that stuff is distracting in the audience, it's even more distracting to us, and we have to do it while performing complex choriography. We;ve often joked that we should carry those balls they use in racket ball in our pockets and chunk them at the people who persit to take flash pictures.

I understand some people accidently might do one. but there are some who just keep doing it.

oh and the only reason they would stop a show is for an emergency. IF they do it proptly and quickly no scene will be made and everyone will see it. problem solved.

Yes indeed people have taped it, but it seems like it would be against the rules because it is dangerous. What if you drop the camera on someone's head. Also, chances are that your video would be no better than those on Google Videos or Youtube.

On a separate note, I was really annoyed once on Pirates of the Caribbean when someone repeatedly took flash photos both in the line and one th ride. I got so annoyed I had to ask them to stop. Some people! Just had to get that off my chest :)

I noticed that during Soarin's preshow, they specifically mentioned cameras as something that needed to be put away in the mesh bag under the seat. I has wanted to take some photos of DD on Soarin', but after hearing that, I didn't want to try it.

We did notice a CM stopping someone filming with a flash during Voyage of the Little Mermaid in October. They make announcements before the show that flash photos are not allowed for safety reasons, but someone still did it. We could see the CM trying to figure out exactly where the flash was coming from. It took 3 flashes and the people were escorted out.

I have to say I totally agree about them enforcing the NO Lighting policy...I guess for me, though, do people actually watch these videos when they get home? I just don't see how you can actually enjoy disney through a viewing window...

I was soooo annoyed on POTC in October...the family in front of us, mom/dad or grandmom/granddad (couldn't tell)and small child (under 2) asked that instead of sitting in the back of the boat in front of us they sit in the front of the next boat...the one our family of 5 with 3 small children were getting on. Okay, so I wasn't really upset about not sitting in the front. whatever. What I did get annoyed with was the full flash photography during the ENTIRE ride...I don't think people realize how much this takes away from everyone around them wanting to actually enjoy the ride. There is a REASON for them to say NO FLASH...and the whole time I'm saying something to DH how I can't believe how inconsiderate people are....how we can't enjoy all of the effects with all of the FLASHING going on. The same thing went on on the people mover...lites, lites, lites.....

The only ride videos that I would watch are those of past attractions, like Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. But still, not even close to capturing the feel of the ride, and some of them are almost impossible to see (like Haunted Mansion)

I download every video I can find. when you are a year away from your next trip you will watch anything to put you in disney mode. I am affraid for somereason at 6'4" 270 of a tiny female CM that came over the intercom on COP and yelled No wideo wapping. That did make for a funny home video though. In the 50's then you here the voice and cut to black. My wife and I really enjoy watching our video's and always want to take more.

I tape in shows like mermaid when permitted, but do not hold camera above my head. this comes into a culture issue again I think. I have been taught to respect those around me. A lot of visitors from other countries are raised to take care of themselves. There was a thread here about line cutting in line is more like a sport in other countries. I make sure that the person behind me can see from where I am taping. I have (oops) played with my camera once on TTA. Never realized that got on people's nerves.

I think if I am paying to be in the parks I should have a right to tape everything open to the public. No back area unless I am invited into them. As long as I am not taking away from another persons experience.
We were on Test Track and it broke down as were were making the turn to go outside. We had to walk all of the way out. Someone whipped out thier video camera and started taping. The CM threatened them to be escorted out and the person said the ride had no taping restrictions. this really get into a gray area and become a judgement call.

Why would you want to tape it? There are plenty of Videos on you tube of it.
