Are you allowed to fill up water bottles at resort dining halls?

On our last trip my wife and I bought refillable mugs but found ourselves mostly filling the mugs up with water from the water machine at the resort dining hall. Are you allowed to fill up your own water bottles with those machines? If you are, next time we probably won't even bother buying the refillable mugs and just bring our own bottles and only drink water.
