Are you against Ikea Furniture? Is it just the style?

We have some entertainment centers, a desk, DD has the kid's loft bed (the one with the big blue tube thing on top), table, barstools, kid chairs, step stools, toy boxes, mirrors, vases, frames... we had a couch. It was the $229 loveseat that gets different covers. One day the main support beam broke and it was under warranty but we didn't keep the receipt. I stuffed some books under the beam and we kept using it for another 2 years. Our house could probably be an ad but people don't notice that it's IKEA at all because we buy the nicer lines.

They definitely sell some crap, but with most of their products it seems like if you take a step up from the cheapest one you get a good product. We have IKEA organizers all over the place and it makes our lives so much better. I would never buy so many baskets and bins if they weren't so inexpensive.

LOL, just realized when posting on the crib thing that DS has an Ikea mattress that we're happy with! I guess I have more Ikea than I thought

Quite honestly, I miss going as frequently as we did when we were doing the kitchen...those cinnamon rolls...

I'll echo everyone else and say "it depends." Our guest bedroom/office has an IKEA cabinet, two desks and, two file drawers. They have held up very nicely for over 5 years and look to be going strong. DD18 has an IKEA chest of drawers which is complete crap and DH has been fixing bits and pieces of it for the past 3 years. However, her metal bed-frame looks fabulous.

I also have an IKEA sink, cabinet and mirror in my master bath. The laminated pieces are showing their age (5 years), but the sink is in great shape and I figure, I can pretty much replace the cabinetry for cheap any time I like.

My cousin owns a used furniture place and he will not take any Ikea furniture. He says it looks nice but most of it falls apart by 5 years.

It is a good choice for a new college grad needing basic stuff. Not high end by any means.

Yes, but I'm sure this is true of all "put together" furniture. Ikea stuff isn't bad for cheap furniture, but you can't expect it to be Ethan Allen.

I just redid a room in my house and gave away some of the furniture in it. Two of the bookcases that were in there were about 15 years old and were from Ikea. They still looked brand new and have held up extremely well.

I repurposed this room into a scrapbooking room and completely furnished it with Ikea furniture. Mostly Expedit bookcases, a Besta console and a couple of desks. I can say that the Expedit bookcases are of a very durable quality and one of them weighs over 200 lbs when put together.

This is the only room in my house that has Ikea furniture but have no concern about what I chose not holding up well.

I'd say 95% of my house comes from Ikea. The exceptions are pretty much the couch (DH didn't like any Ikea ones) and the mattress (too big to fit in the car, to expensive to have delivered).

Pretty much everything has been moved at least twice, a handfull of things have moved across the country and all are fine.

Heck, even my sons nursery is all Ikea furniture!

The only problem table we've had was a coffee table where one of the legs was breaking. But a little wood glue fixed it. Add a coat of paint and now it's a train table!

we spent a small fortune on a wardrobe system from IKEA for DD's room. Didn't last a year. It was the biggest waste of money.

What happened to it? Was it put together correctly? We have been considering one of the wardrobes for use at our store. I think we've been looking at the Pax model and planning on outfitting it with shelving and drawers.

I'd say 95% of my house comes from Ikea. ...!

:lmao:

I think our house is about 75% IKEA.
We don't need fancy stuff and their stuff is pretty cool and gives us LOTS of vertical storage without breaking the bank.
We even did 2 kitchens with IKEA kitchen cabs. They know us well in that store, and we live 1.25hrs away :rotfl:

No, their stuff isn't heirloom quality by any means but I don't need something that will last 30 years. I need something that gives me space and looks pretty good with reasonable pricing.

Certain things we don't care much of, but our office tables, kitchen cabs, countertop, appliances (except for microwave), office/living room cabinets, bed frame, we like.

Yes, they are mdf particle board stuff but we don't have too much $ to decorate so IKEA fits our bill :thumbsup2

I have LOTS of IKEA furniture! :thumbsup2

Mattresses, bed-frames, dining tables and chairs, bookshelfs, a couch...a whole lot of stuff. The only item that didn't hold up all that well was one of the rails on DD's daybed. I think she karate-kicked it in her sleep and snapped one of them (one among about 50 vertical ones). Fixed it with black duct tape--no worries.

I'm very happy with my IKEA furniture. Well worth what I paid, especially when I get some pieces from the AS-IS room. :goodvibes

I do love most things from Ikea but will never get a bed from there again. A few years ago I bought one to use at my dad's house because I was staying there on the weekends. DW (who was my GF then) and I sat down on it and the middle of the bed snapped in half. We are both pretty petite girls. I'd only bought the about 90 days prior.

I have lots of IKEA furniture. Most of our cabin is filled with Ikea stuff because we needed something and didn't want to spend a ton of money on it (and because our kids tend to be destructive). We've been very pleased with everything we've gotten over the last 5-6 years. We've got desks, poang chairs, stools, desk chairs, dining room chairs, sideboard, storage cabinets, tv stand, shelves. I'm looking for a bed for DS room now and will most likely buy Ikea. Overall the quality has been good We've got a dresser with a broken drawer, I think thats more my destructive kid than poor quality.

I love my ikea stuff. I have a couple of expedit shelving units because it will actually hold 12x12 scrapbooking supplies. Have also bought our last entertainment center and some misc items for small storage and have had no problems. I still snicker though-one of my fav things was a little set of 1.99 snack bowls-DH looked at them and said do we really need those??? Yup-they are used constantly at our house.

I think it depends on what the item is. We have 2 bunk beds that have stood up to 1 move (completely taken apart and put back together) and 3 years of boys jumping all over them.

About 4 yrs ago we moved into a new home and needed a dinning room table, but did not have much money after moving, My dad has his own wood workshop and could make the table for us but not the chairs, so I shopped around and found Ikea to have the cheapest wood chairs at only $20 each (perfect match w/the table too!) so we got 8 of them. about 3 yrs later they started coming apart so DH fixed them all with an L bracket and now they are stronger and will last us many more yrs to come . Very happy with the chairs except they are light and can be knocked over easy.

We have a bookcase that is eons old and it is holding up rather well. Our two other large bookcases and the smaller one is great.

We do have a dresser that has seen better days and it is only six years old. The bottom drawer is warped and I'm constantly fixing it back into place. It also no longer closes.

I keep telling Husband I need to go on Price is Right to win a new bedroom set.

My husband and I bought an entertainment center right after Christmas in '06 and it's our best piece of furniture! It's great and I love it! We also have a few other random things things that we've never had issues with. We actually just bought DD (2 years old) a bed from there yesterday. Clearly it hasn't been used & abused much, but it seems pretty sturdy right now...

We have a couple of the Expedit bookcases and they are really sturdy and spacious. Kids have desks that have held up well. We had an Ektorp set that got a lot of use and also held up well, just replaced with a Crate and Barrel set (that I got for free!). And we renovated our kitchen last year using IKEA cabinets and I love them. :lovestruc

The one thing that was crap was a reading lamp which never really worked right.

Last year we added three new bedrooms for our kids.

All the furniture (beds, bookcases, wardrobes, hanging chairs, etc) in all three bedrooms and the playroom is IKEA. I think most of it is ODDA and EXPEDIT. The closest IKEA is almost 5 hours away and I wish there was one closer.

I will admit there were a few things that we were considering when we saw them online and in the catalogue, but knew they would not hold up when we saw them in the store. It has been well over a year and all the furniture still looks brand new (even being used daily by three kids-- ages 4, 6, and 12).

We have shopped IKEA for small things in the past few years, all of which held up well and was very stylish in my opinion. When we moved into our Florida apt 5 months ago we decided to go buy a couch. We sat on every one and one of the less expensive ones that we loved was the KIVIK brand. It's been great!! We bought the loveseat and chaise and attached them into a sectional. Got a cherry red cover for it and can't wait to get more covers to switch out when the mood changes.
