Are you against Ikea Furniture? Is it just the style?

I have a guest bedroom full of Ikea, bed, desk, chair, dresser. We also have a home study full of Ikea office furniture. Everything is sturdy and looks great but the quality of the dresser is really bad. The dresser drawers couldn't handle a heavy load, the bottom would break right out.

I REALLY like their office furniture. The desks offer so many shapes/combinations, leg styles and colors that it's easy to fit your room and style. And, the desks are pretty sturdy. We also have a large file cabinet that I like. It's always held a lot of stuff and never gave out, drawers still roll smoothly, etc.

We have tons of Ikea furniture. It all depends on what you buy. We did our DD room with all Ikea furniture. We used the Mammut furniture line because all the blue furniture went perfect with our ocean/Nemo themed nursery. The crib was $200 and is sturdier than tons of other cribs I see for $600. It's a freakin rock. But again, you have to check out the sturdiness of stuff in the store.

We love Ikea. I find it's best to mix and match with furniture from other places. We love our Room & Board couch and cocktail table but would never want to spend the money furnishing an entire house with R&B. So the modular Besta entertainment center offers a great look, lots of storage and complete customization.

Usually the dirt cheap Ikea stuff is not that nice, feels cheap and looks as bad. Ikea can get pretty pricey when you add up all the parts you gotta buy and if you're looking at their more decent stuff.

We also sport a Malm bed frame with a very nice mattress from a high end shop. Matches great with our bedside tables from West Elm. Our dining table is Ikea, although it doesn't look it. Chairs to wear down a lot more quickly though. Expedit is quite heavy duty.

Worst quality stuff I've ever gotten though was Target furniture.

Our kids have had a couple of beds, bureaus, and bookcases, and all have held up remarkably well.

I just hate the actual store. The teacher in me can't help thinking that, in that rat's maze, a fire would surely kill everyone inside; no one would ever be able to find their way to an exit. It gives me the heebie jeebies and I can't wait to get out.

But I have no issues with the quality of their furniture.

With a few exceptions, I am not a huge fan of IKEA. Mainly, I don't like their styles and find them too modern for my taste. In my computer room, I do have a white Ektorp love seat and black & white check Ektorp Jennylund chair and I really do like them. They are the perfect size for my smaller room. I love the washable slipcovers and I think the styling of the Extorp line is more classic so it works for me.

I think most of the families in my DD's playgroup (including mine) has the 2x4 Expedit bookcase. Eveyone uses it horizontal and has it filled with baskets for toys. All of them still look like brand new and are rock solid! I wish I had wall space in my basement for the 4x4 one!

We bought a big screen TV last year for our basement, the only tv stand we could find that fit the TV with out being too wide for the space was from IKEA. It is holding up great but my DD is pretty easy on furniture.

We got MIL a small cafe table with 2 chairs for her kitchen. The chairs need to be tightened sometimes, but she is rough on things.

I love other things from IKEA, like wine glasses, my DD's down-alternative conforter, kitchen gadgets, etc....
