I never do it, either. It was drummed into our heads that something isn't yours until you pay for it and a failure to plan (starving when you go to the store to shop) is no excuse.

On a lesser note, I'm not a germaphobe but the idea of touching the cart, touching all the products that other people have touched, and using my hands after touching all that to put food in my mouth skeeves me out.

It has never occurred to me to open up food to eat in the supermarket. It doesn't take an hour from start to finish - I can get through it, even if I am hungry.

I've never grazed in the store.

I usually pass on free food samples, too. There are just too many germs on those shopping cart handles and around the store for my to feel comfortable eating there without washing my hands.

I think it is okay as long as you pay for the items, I have never done it though. I wait until I get into the car if I need to eat something.

Never done it. Kids have never done it. Never will. I think we are perfectly capable of waiting until we leave and nothing in my cart is mine until I have paid for it.

I have never done it, but I do think it's okay if the item is actually purchased. Like, if a Mom opens a package of Oreos and gives her kid one or two while they're shopping, and pays for the package.

Eating produce is wrong though, I think. Like eating a few grapes out of the bag, you pay for them by weight so I think that is stealing.

One out of five!! I would have never thought it was that high.

On occasion I see little kids eating from a box of crackers or the like. No big deal as long as they pay for it.

I am very picky about my grapes, so I do test one before I decide to buy.

I do not go to the story hungry as I impulse buy too much junk that I don't need. So I am never starving when I am in the store and need to eat while I am there. I do like the free samples!:rotfl:

The other day I saw a kid sitting in the seat of the basket surrounded by a buffet...drink, animal crackers, and a gogurt.

And no, I don't do it.

I posted other because there have been a few occasions when I've asked the deli counter employee for a sample/taste of a salad or cheese before deciding if I wanted to purchase it.

I voted as long as the items are eventually paid for but personally I'd pay for them first. If your going to be in the store long enough to warrant feeding a kid or drinking something jump into the express lane and pay for your snack before opening it.

I personally never have, it just does not seem right to me. My child never has either. If I am taking her shopping with me, I bring stuff from home for her to munch on. I have seen many folks eating items off the shelf and the store workers never seem to say anything so I guess it is okay as long as you pay for it at the end.

It's not mine until I've paid for it, so IMO it's stealing.

The only reason I can see doing it is if someone was having a diabetes related emergency.

I dont shop, I know what I want and get in and out of a store, then its Mission Accomplished

Isn't that pretty much what everyone tries to do at the grocery store? :confused3

I never do it, either. It was drummed into our heads that something isn't yours until you pay for it and a failure to plan (starving when you go to the store to shop) is no excuse.

.

Same here, I never let my kids eat anything either. When my girls were small I would bring food for them from home if I thought they would be hungry, but in my opinion it's not yours until you pay for it.

I've never done this. I see people often, eating as they shop, sometimes just a bagel, but sometimes a box of crackers or cookies open in the front part of the cart. Do you not realize how hungry you are before you get to the store? This always confuses me! And how long are you really at the store for? Can you not wait until you get home? or at least until you pay and get out to your car? I would never think of eating something in the store. It's not mine until I pay for it. That's just me. :confused3

I don't do that and I do not allow my children to do that. I voted no.

Besides, we wash all of our fruits and veggies so how some manage to just eat something everyone else has touched makes me .

We do however sample the samples they give to us in our hands and that usually hits the spot when needed:cloud9:

When ds10 was little I would always buy him a muffin at Wegman's. He would hand the bag to the cashier and tell her he ate 1 muffin.

I voted as long as it is eventually paid for although I do not think it is something that should be done on a regular basis. There have been a handful of occasions when I have suddenly felt ill and needed sugar (mostly during pregnancy) and have opened a packet of biscuits or chocolate and eaten some rather than pass out in the store - however I make sure I take an unopened packet of the same to the checkout and get it scanned twice explaining to the cashier why and showing her the opened packet without giving it to her to handle. I can also understand why parents of young children may feel the need to do this although I always managed to avoid it with my three (due to be able to time my shopping appropriately which I appreciate not everybody can).

I'm not a grazer. but I think if they eventually pay for it, then it's OK.
