I just started swimming at the YMCA.... I can do 2 laps at a time and then I need a break. But I try to do a total of at least 20 laps per visit.

I am a pretty weak swimmer, I guess.

No, I am a horrible swimmer. I did swimming lessons for several years as a kid and couldn't catch on. As an adult, watching my kids, I am able to understand the concept (keep your legs straight, kick just below the water, big arms, breathe to the side, etc) but I can't put it all together like that. I really can't even doggie paddle.

I am pretty weak swimmer myself. I get out breath easily.

I am pretty bad at freestyle (Australian Crawl) because I can only breathe on one side and run out of air.

Breaststroke I can do for mile after mile although I am not fast.

I am almost 50 years old and I got my mile badge when I was 11

I'm a very good swimmer, my parents made sure especially since my Mom doesn't swim. I even saved my Dad at Daytona Beach when I was in highschool.

I can swim and I love to swim, but I wouldn't call myself a good swimmer. I'm sure my form leaves a lot to be desired and I don't have the endurance to swim many laps at a time.

I have not swam on a regular basis since I was a teenager, so although I can swim, dive, float, and doggie paddle, I wouldn't have a clue about endurance.

Boy, this is a timely post. I have been hemming and hawing about getting back to the pool at the Y.
I have put on weight and this was the best exercise I did. I would do laps for 30 minutes. and I LOVED It. Tho at the begining I went slow and I was never a fast swimmer. I never did the crawl stroke. I only did the breast stroke, side and back stokes.

I also loved water aerobis and water jogging. I sound like such a geek, but I loved it.

Ok By Tuesday night I had better get back and stop the procrastinating.

I wouldn't say I'm a great swimmer, but it's not something I worry about. I grew up around boats so I had lessons very young for safety reasons, to the point where I felt I was safer at times without a lifejacket (Ever been caught beneath the mainsail of a capsized boat while wearing a lifejacket? Not cool.). I can tread water and float for forever. I can do several strokes for several laps, but it's not something I've ever worked on.

Good luck to you. :thumbsup2

Not me, but 2 of my ds are. They are both lifeguards, just at pools, I think the ocean would be too hard for them. They have done a couople of saves and the other month ds17 had to do cpr on a guy who unfortunately died. All those swimming lessons ae really paying off.

Does my screen name give it away? Love to swim and have taught it for a living for 32 years.
