Reading TerriP's post about the graduation party got me thinking about this...

When hosting a party: are you a fun and welcoming host or are you more concerned about your guests not messing up your house?:smooth:

I'm the kind of host that gets so wound up over whether people are enjoying themselves that I probably make them uncomfortable! House concerns are quite distant...except wondering if it is clean enough!

Fun and welcoming. The guests can't do anything the dog and 5 year old boy haven't done, so no worries there. :D

Vera says I'm a great host, as long as I don't move from the bar stool and she keeps my beer glass full.

I have been told that I am. I always have too much food. (I have been to parties where the food ran out.) I make sure every plate is full along with their glasses are full (no alcohol). I have three children so I really don't worry about much except the time when we were having my DS 1st Birthday. We had put up our WDW train around the Christmas tree that day and all of our friends kids wanted to play with it. I told EVERYONE that it was ok but if it got broken that I would come and take it out of their hide. The adults never touched it. LOL

I did have one couple tell me once that they didn't want to leave the fun to attend another function. That made me feel good except that it was for church.

Happy Thoughts to all,

I have been told that we throw the BEST parties. We always have TOO much food/drink. I even have received thankyou notes in the mail thanking me for such a great party....thought that was really nice.

I have an aunt who is a clean freak. Now I like a clean house but she is obsessive. If you are at her house and wash your hands in the bathroom, she runs in there after you leave and dries the sink with a towel. After a meal is served she starts sweeping the floor before everyone is even finished eating. The last time we were there she actually cleaned the oven after we finished eating!

She is the kind of host that makes me dread going to her house. I am more of the let's leave the dishes for later kind of person. I always put the leftovers away right away, put as much as I can in the garbage or dishwasher, but leave everyhting else for later.

I'm usually the first to yell "Ok - who spilled a martini on the rug?" quickly followed by "Never mind! It was me!" heheh

the martini shaker and the blender are always in overdrive when we have parties! tons-o-food too...lots of easy munchies mostly. coffee is brewed for those that would like it...

and basically I kick anyone out who even attempts to help clean up at the end of the night. (I leave it all for the next day! heheh)

I'm not fun "pre-party"...poor DH hates it when we're having guests and I'm anal about getting the house *just so* before they arrive. I have two dogs and a messy DH, so there is always plenty of cleaning to do pre-party.

BUT, once guests are there...the party is on! If it spills, it will clean up...if it doesn't, I will have a little reminder of a great party. :p

The last party I threw was DH's surprise 30th birthday party and it was a blast! We had WAY too much food (sent some home with everybody) and lots of wonderful time spent with our guests. I had little party favors for all the kids that came and the birthday guy himself even got on the floor and played with the kids. It was a lot of fun! ::yes::

BTW....

I inspired a thread....WELL DONE, Me!! :Pinkbounc :p

I'm exactly the same! Every time we have people over I tell myself to relax, but I'm so worried about everyone having fun that I don't have much fun. When the host isn't having fun, neither IMO do the guests.

Unfortunately, I am not a good host. I enjoy hosting parties, but stress out when it actually happens. I want to make sure everyone has a good time, etc. I want to make sure everything is cleaned up, too.

My mom and brother came to visit this year for Christmas. I was so busy keeping up with the laundry, meals and housework while they were here, that I hardly got to visit with them and then it was time for them to go.

I learned a lesson from that. I will try a lot harder to enjoy my company next time.

I am the same way. Add in 2 teenagers, and they HATE the pre-party me! If they could all just GO AWAY for a day or so before the party....

Norm, take it easy on the beer.;) Well, at least you're not as bad as my neighbor who often drinks vodka and coke early in the mornings.;)
