we just put a bid on a contract at beach club for 200 pts! we purchased SSR last year (200 pts) and have taken two DVC vacations so far and absolutely love it. our favorite resort is beach club and as our family grows (either in number or in actual size as our son is only 18 months old now) we think that a one bedroom or bigger will suit us.

we plan to vacation once or twice a year to disney.

we keep saying, "oh man do we REALLY need 400 pts??" but you know what? we LOVE disney and we know we're going to go and all those points gives us great flexibility!

ok so maybe i'm not really asking the question just justifying myself by writing it out.

can you tell me about YOUR add ons and why you are happy with it??

I started with 250 at OKW about 18 years ago. I've added on about 10 times or more and now we have 2,570 points. Every time I added on I thought I was nuts, and then I found a way to spend the points.

You can never have too many DVC points as long as you can pay the MF without a problem

You can never be too skinny (ok, yes you can) or have too many points!:goodvibes

My boys were 3 and 5 when we joined and I sooo wished we could have enjoyed SAB with them when they were mcuh younger. They loved to play in the sand. The babies are sooo cute and they have an entire area of SAB to themselves.:)

They are now taller than me, and dont like to share beds, so our add-ons have been put to good use!

we took our son to SAB in sept. he was 15 months old at the time and absolutely loved pool time! it was so awesome! i think that's where we fell in love with the resort :)

nothing wrong with investing in family time! Merry Christmas!:woohoo:

i like the way you think :) merry christmas to you!

we currently have 400 points (240 original, plus 2 add-ons), and still find ourselves in a constant borrowing state :confused3
btw, our vacations have changed quite a bit over the past 12 years of owning (different times of year, room sizes, length of stay, etc), and the flexibility of DVC has made it easy....having more points has been wonderful.

as long as you are likely to use all the points and can easily pay the MFs, i say go for it:)

I agree with what others have said. As long as the debt doesn't strain you than go for it. I wish I had done it years ago when my children were little. When I think of all the money I spent through the years at Disney before I bought into DVC. I waited till I had grandchildren and we had gone on several Disney Cruises and trips to Disney with them. But better late than never. I love my trips with my family to Disney. Like you BCV is my favorite and my older 3 grandchildren love it there too. But don;t worry if your BCV points don't go through. I use my SSR points all the time at BCV, just not during popular times like holidays and food and Wine.Good luck and I hope your resale goes through.:cloud9:

Hi Dumbo buddy! I remember when you were buying your pts, I think we were waiting through ROFR at the same time :)

I don't think you are nuts at all, I think you will LOVE the extra pts!!!! I need to figure out how to get my DH on board for an add on sometime soon too, it's going to be a tough sell though! I have borrowed almost all of our 2011 pts to make a BIG trip this June with friends. I was planning on squeezing down to a studio for our trip the next year to even it out, but I just found out I am pregnant with #3!

I find it funny that instead of thinking about names and how to tell our families all I can think about is how to make our DVC pts work as a family of 5 :lmao:It seems crazy to try to smash into a studio with 2 small kids and a pack in play too. I would love at least a 75pt add on to cushion my plans the next few years :thumbsup2

Maybe if I tell Santa....:rotfl2:

Congrats on your new contract and happy planning with all those points!!!!

we started with 200 points when we bought in 2008. We've since added on twice, now that we have three kids (twins in 2009!). We are thinking of adding on again. We figure we will need more points as the kids grow--more flexibility. We also want to spend a few months down there when the kids are grown (Jan and Feb). We are just wondering now how many we need to add on and if we should do it yet. Not sure...We've never regreted our addons though. We love our time down at WDW. It is a second home, feels like home. I agree about the idea of investing in family time. We have an absolutely magical time when there, as corny as that sounds. Go for it. I'll be following soon.

We started with 175, added a few times to get to 500. Hated paying so much each year in member fees, sold off two contracts. Down to 325. Probably will sell another contract or two in the near future if the price goes up a bit.

As long as you are not creating debt and can really afford to put that amount of cash out, I say go for it! It is just DH and me. And we find all kinds of ways to use our 800 points. Taking extended family to WDW every so often and stay in a GV is truly amazing.

You will love your extra points as your child grows up and you want larger rooms. Also, as new resorts are added, you will want to visit more DVC each year. You won't have a problem using the points. As long as you can afford the dues and the travel costs that go with them, you won't have any regrets.

hey everyone! thanks for all your responses!!

we signed all the paperwork last night and dh is going to mail it out today :)

now, i have a sinking feeling that we'll get ROFR'd but we'll live. it's better to get ROFR'd than to feel we overpaid for something, kwim? if this contract doesn't work, there will be others.

ercrbc - congrats on your pregnancy! i know what you mean about trying to plan vacations based on how many people. dh is desperate for another baby and i actually said to him the other day, "but then we would have to stay in at least a 1 or 2 bedroom which would require more points!!" lol!

I was going to give my wife an "add-on" coupon good for up to 150 pts.. and I was going to pay for it in CASH.. but her work situation has changed, and we've agreed that as of now it would be better to just wait...

Perhaps next year..

We started with 150 and then added another 50 which suites our stays for now. We have four children 18 thru 26 and two grand kids. Our kids have been to Dis alot and grand kids just starting. Your family is young with alot of vacations ahead of you so you'll get use of your points but one thing I've noticed with some Dvc families with older teens is that they can get burned out on disney, it becomes just another amusement park. There were years when our kids would say "do we have to go again this year". So we started going every other year, we always stay in a 2bdrm even if there is only four of us and we bought another timeshare in the carribean for the odd years which seemed to work out good. Good luck and enjoy.

We started with 165 points, and almost immediately added on 150. We're going to add on again next year, I think. 300 was about right for our vacation habits before buying DVC, but we've enjoyed sharing our trips so much with family and friends that we're thinking we'd like enough points to get 2 bedrooms consistently and a grand villa occasionally. We've also considered getting a non-DVC timeshare, and may go that route either instead or in addition.

Congratulations on your add-on!

I have added-on couple of times. It has just created more opportunities for my family and I to enjoy ourselves at WDW.

The add-on can only be your decision. It depends on your situation personally and financially. One thing we all degree on is that having more will never be wrong. I'm sure you will find more ways to use them.
