Most weddings here rent firehalls or social halls for receptions
and an abundance of alcohol is the norm, as well as a full dinner.

My family did not consume ANY alcohol growing up
nor did DH's.

We serve it at every occasion, kid birthdays, holidays, etc. Our parents do not ever serve it, and very rarely even imbibe in a taste.

...okay, so it wasn't me then - I understand that different people have different opinions - if someone's opinion is different, why criticize them, or why even begin a thread on such a 'touchy' subject? All I did was explain my own personal circumstance and WOW, they came out of the woodwork...YIKES!
