go to Disney World without using points and stay in a moderate hotel? Travelocity had a great deal at POFQ for 7 nights it was $590 with tax!! We banked all our points for 2010 and are planning a big trip in 2011 so we did not plan on going again this year until we seen the prices. I sort of feel like were not utilizing our DVC membership and are wonderng if it won't be as magical staying moderate instead of a villa but I need my WDW fix! Any thoughts? :confused3

It's not a bad idea. We just got back from BLT last week, and we planned another trip in October, but literally everything is booked up so were staying at Caribbean Beach unless something opens up at one of the vacation club resorts. I think the vacation club resorts spoil you, but it's whatever, disney is disney and it's still fun no matter where you stay.

Depends on your expectations. It is definitely a step down from the DVC villas. We spend a good bit of time at the resort, so we wouldn't do it. If you plan to only use your room for sleeping, you shouldn't be disappointed.

I would miss the balcony, free internet and laundry. The balcony mostly. I love having an outdoor space in the room.

Im DVC or bust!:goodvibes

I just got back from a trip off site. I LOVED it! We are all different and use our points in different ways!:goodvibes

:thumbsup2 Great price..I am happy for you and hope you have a terrific time.

In general, I believe the automatic answer to any question that starts "Am I the only one who..." is "no." :)

Specifically, the answer is still "no." :) I just stayed at CBR in June with my son (age 8) because I wanted to take a surprise trip to take advantage of a Southwest Ding! fare. I didn't want to use points, but I also didn't want to spend too much on our room. A value was just out of the question (BTDT 2x, not going back), so I got an AP rate at CBR. (And our rate for June was nowhere near as good as the one you found!)

It was probably the best trip we've ever had together! The resort probably didn't have much to do with, but I guess the good news in that is that it didn't make our trip worse. Truth be told, I'd have rather been in a deluxe or in a villa, but it served us well. The pool was great fun - better than some other deluxe resort pools and far better than CSR and POR (never stayed at POFQ).

I'd definitely consider doing the same thing again if we wanted to get a Disney fix without spending points. :thumbsup2

wait a second..free internet? ..where and how?

DVC members receive free internet when staying on points at the DVC resorts. There is a connection to the internet in all units. It's one of the perks. :)

DVC members receive free internet when staying on points. Last trip we brought along the wireless modem and DS had the room and balcony with wi-fi within 10 minutes of checking in!:goodvibes My Iphone worked like a champ on wi-fi, not so much on the 3g network.

WDW resorts still charge $9.99 a day for internet via ethernet cable.

I agree, op you did receive a great price!:thumbsup2

that stinks, didn't know, we just did our first DVC stay at BLT 2 weeks ago and I had my laptop and it woulda been helpful if I knew about this. I was thinking of bringing my PS3 for some Mordern Warfare at night but it wouldn't have been fun without internet..well now I know for next time. Thanks!

No, you're not alone. A few years ago they offered free dining and I just had to take advantage. We had a 5-night BCV 1 BR already booked on points, so I sold that trip, and with the proceeds, was able to stay at CSR for 6 nights, have free dining (which at the time included appetizers and tips) and only had to purchase 1-day park tickets for the family. I came out several hundred dollars ahead. Now we have 5 in our family, so 1 mod room won't cut it any more, but if I could get the price you got, I'd be awfully tempted, too!

As a family of 7, and always guests along, studios just do not work for us. And, love the laundry in the room since we stay 9-12 nites each trip.

FYI, AKV Jambo is only wired, no wi-fi but still free for DVC members. Had this problem on our last trip at the end of May. We had a work around thank goodness, because I had my MacBook Pro with me.

I almost did it myself. Was looking for a trip this December before breaking down and renting points from another member. Our 6 night stay will certainly be costing us more than that deal... wow!

I know this is totally the wrong way to look at it, but when I use points it doesn't feel like it's money out of my pocket. I know there's a cost to being a member, but I still don't have to pay off the credit card bill for a room if I use points.

The smart way to look at it is to assign a dollar value to each point and compare that to the cost of a package through central reservations and then pick the cheapest one. However, I just can't do that.

We have stayed at all of the WDW hotel categories and found the same. We would NEVER stay at one of the value resorts again for any reason....HATED IT! We found that the moderates are very nice but we too miss the balcony. I know that many folks will say that they don't spend a lot of time in the rooms but we do. We love the Deluxe and DVC resorts and I am not sure that we could go back.

I will often add a few days at one of the Disney Hotels to extend our trip or save points for a future planned trip.
