Are we odd parents?

My parents never talked to me about any of that stuff. I got SCREAMED at about cigarettes when I was about 14 and my dad found a pack in my dresser drawer. I learned about body parts and menstruation and stuff from friends and a book :headache:. I never had a sex talk, but I was smart enough to use condoms. Can you imagine being a teenager and having to tell your mother that the condom broke!? :scared1: Asking her to make a gyno appointment for me was pretty much our sex talk. :confused3 My mom works in labor and delivery so you would think it would be pretty easy to talk about things like premarital sex, but I guess it's not. And me being the third child should have been even easier. I'm pretty sure she never had a talk with my pregnant teenage sister either. :rolleyes1 (the one who was going to wait for marriage to have sex :headache: )

I will be having talks with my daughter all throughout her life I hope. She is only two and already asks about different body parts.

I think you are fairly odd parents. :rotfl:

I don't really, but it had to be said after reading the thread title.

Everyone does this stuff their own way. If the kids reach adulthood without being sleazy, pregnant or on drugs, it worked...who cares if it is odd?

My boys learned that their wee-wee made the pee-pee. I didn't ever get into teaching them proper names until they were older. That's me. But before they were done with high school, they knew the official name, 27 parts of it and how it all worked. They learned the girl stuff, too.

If you think you're odd, I have kids calling their parents up to ask if they can learn about Anatomy and look at naked pictures of people in books. Never had a mom say "No" but I've had a lot of them ask to speak to me first!!!

The kids just want to check out the nekkid people, but they have to pretend to be interested in learning stuff to do it...and they do. :)

I haven't talked to my DD5 yet (I think that's too little) but I have talked to my DS9 about those issues.

I even showed him a clip from that celebrity rehab show with Dr Drew. It had a guy from Taxi (can't remember his name) and he looked HORRIBLE. It definitely showed what drugs/alcohol can do to people. I didn't let him see much but enough to get my point across.
