Are we going to need reservations at Carnation Cafe?

We are planning to eat there when we arrive in Disneyland for DD's birthday dinner (she really wants the Matterhorn Sundae for dessert). We are going to have a group of 9...will we need a reservation? At what point should I make the reservation? This will be on Saturday, November 5th, if that makes a difference. Thanks!

Not sure the answer to the OP's question, but if anyone has a picture and/or description of the Matterhorn Sundae I'd love to know all about it!

I would make sure to call. Last summer when we were trying to arrange lunch for a large party they had a size limit on tables. I can't remember exactly what the "cut-off" was but it was enough for us to decide against it. I am hoping to get in this time around with a smaller group.

Not sure if you can make a PS for that many and may have to split into two tables. I'd be surprised if you could walk up with that many. Walking up with 5 generally provides us with a decent sized wait.

You can make the booking up to 60 days ahead so I would make a booking now if I were you. Dh and I made a booking, we walked up and stood in the looooooooong line with everyone else. Then I realized that the line was for people waiting so I went up to the window and we got in straight away. Worth booking.

I've only been there for lunch. The first 2 times (both weekdays in the off season), we had a party of 4 and had to wait 10-15 minutes. The third time, we got smart and made a reservation.

I can't see any disadvantage to having the reservation...you should book it!

Call and make 2 reservations for the same time (one for 5 and 1 for 4, or 6&3..) Then arrive about a half hour early and just tell them you would like to be together. Usually, they will seat you in the back, or along the south rail. I've walked up with 8 without a problem.

A few years ago, I tried to book lunch for a party of 7 at Carnation Cafe. The agent said they didn't book parties of that size. I said, ok, how about if we split into two parties of 3 and 4? She said, no, you can't book two reservations at the same time. I said, ok, go ahead and book me for a party of 4, then I'll call back and book the party of 3 for the same time. She said, no, if you call back you'll just get me again and I won't let you book another table. I was very confused at that point. I didn't understand why the 7 of us wouldn't be allowed to eat there at the same time. I just figured the heck with it and I didn't pursue it any further. Perhaps the agent was wrong, or the policy has changed by now? I had no problem booking a party of 8 for Minnie's Plaza Inn for next month.

When you get one of those operators, you simply say "OK, I need a ressie for 4" adn make it in your name. Then call back and make another ressie in your daughter's name (or son or niece or whoever....) They tried that with me at Ariels last Christmas. I had a table of 6 and 2 tables of 4. Funny part? When I got to Ariel's early, they had already seen the same last name and just put us together before I even asked...

We walked up with 7 for an early dinner around 4:30 in early August, when the parks are pretty busy, and had a minimal wait and we all sat together. It was also not long before the parade started, so we got to see bits and pieces go by at the end of our meal. It was really nice to sit and relax together. That's one of my favorite places to eat.

You may also want to know that Nov. 5th is the christmas parade taping day, so I would make ressies just in case.

Now I just have to figure out what time to make it for...since that is the day we are also driving/checking in...I *hope* we are there by dinnertime, LOL!!!
