Are we going to die of heat exhaustion in Sept?

Thanks for pointing out the "passing shower" whiporee. If you get caught in one, the humidity from the sun hitting the puddles will feel like it's about 1000%. Take it from someone who's done Disney at everytime of the year.
I bring a Brita bottle not only for drinking, but for dousing. I'm bad about squirting myself with water to cool off. I remember seeing misters in Epcot are they still there?
BTW> One of my favorite sayings is "I love air you can taste." Yes, you can taste the air as soon as you walk outside. It's a living thing. It clings to you.
The afternoon storms are the best. While everyone else is running for cover, I'm walking in it relishing the coolness of it.
I know someone mentioned sunscreen. This is the best advise I can give, use it, use it and use it again. I'm really not sure if there are water heaters at POP century as I don't think I've ever used the hot water. A cold shower is the best! BTW2> You will get a little smelly, but so is everyone else. It doesn't matter how much deodorant you wear. I must be one of the few people that wear cotton socks as I find them very comfortable.
Have fun and look for me in the parks.

It was warm enough to wear jeans and t shirts during the day, but around dusk we had to put thick fleece jackets on. DH wore shorts all winter long through college in Boston, and even he wore jeans that Sept. It was COLD. I sincerely hope it was a fluke, and it's hot when we go to WDW next September.
The record low temperature in Kissimmee for September is 56 degrees. Personally, I'd be fine in shorts with a sweatshirt or windbreaker, maybe both if there were high winds, but I doubt I'd switch to long pants. And while I'll wear shorts through most of October here in MA, I won't wear them all winter, so it's not like I'm fanatic about it.

I doubt I'll even bring long pants for our September trip.

We are going Sept 8th for 9 nights. We have two kids 7 and 4. We're really looking forward to using pools but I'm so afraid we'll be miserable in the parks. We've only been in Dec & Feb and both times we had crap cold weather. Like super windy and 40.

We have gone in September many times. You'll be fine in the parks. Keep hydrated. Carry water bottles in a small cooler or get free glasses of water at the quick service counters. Fans attached to strollers and hand held mister fans are beneficial. We also pack wet wash clothes in a Baggie to cool down and refresh. Cool off in air conditioned rides and take advantage of walking through a/c stores. Hats, sunglasses, and extra sunscreen can help. We always go back to the resort and go in the pool after lunch and a few more rides. It's refreshing. We return to the park for/or after dinner and enjoy the evening. It's fun. It's nice to balance the hot and cool.

I don't think you are allowed to relax at the pool areas at the WDW resort hotels if you are not a guest. You could hang out in the lobbies, I guess or the restaurants.

Right - I didn't mean the pools when I said hotel lounges. I highly doubt anyone not staying at a particular WDW hotel could go to that hotel's pool.

It's my favorite time to go! Summer weather, low crowds, good prices.....enjoy it!

It's pretty intense. Get to parks early, take a break at the resort during the hottest part of the day, and go back after dark.

This is pretty good advice. We are Canadian, and have gone in August and September. And we don't mind the heat and can tolerate it quite well. Just stay hydrated. My daughter ended up with heat related illness for a day and a half and we spent our whole Epcot day in the medical building.

We try to book our lunch ADR somewhere during 12-2 to avoid as much as possible and leave shortly afterwards for a much needed break and return after 6 or 7 depending on park hours.

Honestly, I think the best method would be to hit the parks in the morning, have a TS Lunch around noon and then take your afternoon break and possibly do a TS Dinner (depending on what time you like to eat) just so that way you can be out of the sun for the heat of the day (12 PM - 5 PM).

And like everyone says, stay hydrated!

I know that I'm planning my trip for September, and I'm feeling like I must be crazy because of the heat and humidity levels.
If it weren't for the fact that it has lower crowd levels and that the Food and Wine Festival is going on at EPCOT during that time of year, I would probably go with February.

One thing no one has posted is that you can relax in the lounge of any nearby hotel during those hot times if you don't want to go back to your hotel.

This tip is probably great for those that aren't staying on Disney property because then you can get the chance to cool down, recharge your phones, and use the Wi-Fi as well as explore the different resorts on the Disney property.

I am shocked, shocked to find that Florida gets warm weather in the summer!

Call me crazy, but I think many folks enjoy complaining about weather. No matter what the weather is, someone will complain: too hot, too cold, too sunny, too muggy, too windy, too wet, too dry. And if today's weather is nearly perfect, then folks complain about future or past weather.

Most of us spend most of our time indoors, yet we blabber on and on about the weather from the comfort of homes and offices that are kept between 69-75 degrees all year.

Visiting Disney World means spending some time outside. I've been to FL in just about every month of the year, and happen to think Orlando's weather is about as nice as any place can have. Summer nights in FL are super! Winter afternoons feel great.

Call me crazy, but I think the real problem is that we don't spend enough time outdoors. Somehow humans survived in Africa and the Middle East for thousands of years without air conditioning, but a few hours of outdoors exposure in a theme park we elected to visit is described as hell on earth? At the risk of sounding cliché and stating the obvious, visiting WDW is a choice. If you don't think you'll enjoy your vacation, then choose a vacation destination you will enjoy.

In some parts of the country, the summer weather shifts in September to more of a fall like feel. I understand that's not the case in Florida, but I can certainly understand why people would ask.

Yes, I have watched the Weather Channel. Winter happens every year.

Asking about the weather isn't a problem. Where I object is the call to hyperbole, "Are we going to die."

Suffice it to say, I've lived where there is, get this, snow in the winter! Every snowstorm causes a Chicken Little reaction. Whole swaths of the grocery store are picked clean, like the entire bread aisle!

Hardware stores' supplies of shovels, and snow blowers are picked clean. For the life of me, I can't fathom why people utterly fail to plan, then panic when the stores run out of snow shovels.

It is no surprise Florida experiences heat in the summer. It is a southern state.

So since you know this already and have disdain for those who would ask, why did you even open this thread?

Some people in other parts of the country think of September as more of a fall month.

I think people who have been in the hot summer months just want the folks who have not been during that time to be prepared. Summer in FL is no joke. You need to stay hydrated, take breaks, apply sunscreen often, not push yourself etc. If someone asks about the summer FL weather, I would never say, "It's fine, go have fun!" I would say, "It's fine, go have fun, but take the following precautions......"

Yes, FL and many states in the south have hot humid summers, but if you are asking about it, chances are you have not experienced it. I think people are trying to prepare OP for the weather, because it is different from summer weather in other states. I would hate for someone to be unprepared. It can ruin a trip, and can be very dangerous if you don't take the proper precautions.

I have to agree with those that say it will be hot, but not like the surface of the sun.
We went in the end of September back in 2011 and are going next Month on Sep 12th and I say no worries.
Keep hydrated, bring a handheld fan if you want. I think it was 90 pretty much the whole week we were there, which is the average high for Sept I believe. Last time we had a 3 and 5 yr old and their grandparents and we all fared well.
We also schedule all of our ADRs for lunch so we can rest mid-day when it is hot. we also try to get to the park at rope drop hit the rides we want to early and then take it slow and do a lot of the less crowded indoor shows and rides in the afternoon (i.e Hall of Presidents, Carousel of Progress, the China film and Mexico ride, Muppet Vision 3D, etc). September is typically less crowded so much less time standing in outdoor lines for rides and meet and greets. Have a great trip!

Oh, and I am always more worried about those irritating love bugs in September more than the heat. I know they don't bite, but when they are everywhere they are annoying...

I do want to mention something that no one brings up. Everyone says it's a great idea to go back to your hotel mid-day, but it can take a while to travel back and forth. For my DH and I, we oftentimes found ourselves so heat-exhausted that all we wanted to do when we came back was just to say in our hotel room in the AC. We would get back and relax and feel so lazy that it was hard to get ourselves moving again and motivated to go back out into the heat. I've never seen anyone else say that, so I don't know, maybe that's just us.
This. I'd rather relax at a monorail resort, or even on the monorail itself than take the bus back to our resort. It's time consuming, and once we get back to the room, we get lazy, and don't feel like going back out. Easier to just stay put and find someplace in the AC to rest.

We didn't die of heat exhaustion during our July and August (and I was 20 weeks pregnant for the August one) trips. You'll be fine. Just be sure to take breaks in the peak heat part of the day. Drink lots of water. Bring some Frogg Toggs.

Some people in other parts of the country think of September as more of a fall month.

Once again, you're talking down to me. Fall starts on September 22. People who think fall starts in September are correct.

The OP opened the thread by complaining that they didn't like being at WDW in the winter months, and are equally convinced that they are also going to hate WDW weather in September.

I've happily advised a number of first timers over the past few days who have asked legitimate questions about how best to tour in summer: bring water? mister fans? sneakers or sandals? best rain gear?

When we post facts and realistic observations, we help each other. When we exaggerate, we don't.

If it helps, I also objected to the DISers who posted hyperbolic statements about FP+ before anyone had even tried it.

Nobody is forced to go to WDW, at any time of year.

I never said that I hated Disney in December. I said that it was really cold and when thinking to go to FL Id hope not to be in 40 degree weather. AND I never said I was going to HATE WDW in September. I was merely asking those who have been hot it actually gets. Yes my post was dramatic by saying are we going to die. I live in VA. Its gets above 100 here and the humidity gets into the 90% a lot of days. But we don't typically spend our days outside all day unless were at the beach or pool. Not just walking around in normal clothes all day long. I would never hate WDW so please don't say that I said I'd hate it. I am excited to use the pools and not wear layers everyday. I think we will be fine. Some people say its bearable and others say its miserable. So I guess we will see.
