Are we allowed to take coolers?

My friend read in her documents (bummer, I still do not have mine!) that we are not allowed to bring coolers on board unless we need them for medicines. Can anyone explain what this means?

Can we pack a soft-sided cooler in our luggage to use while on the cruise? Can we pack soda/water in the cooler and have it checked in at the port?

I appreciate any help anyone can give. Thanks!!

You can pack a soft-sided cooler in your luggage. They want to prevent people from being on these huge steamer-trunk-sized hard coolers or these disposble foam coolers that make such a mess when they shatter.

Our docs said the same thing and we were worried, but we carried a soft-sided cooler we bought at Sams on-board with us, we carried it into check-in, and it even went thru the x-ray machines...it was full of bottles of Corona and 3 bottles of wine...LOTS of other people did the same thing. No one said a word to us. We left it open on the coffee table every morning and our cabin steward kept it full of ice for us.

I always take a soft sided cooler, and have never had problems. Like Dave suggests, we carry it on board packed in our luggage, and then use when we take shore excursions.

We just returned from the July 20th Western cruise and were worried about getting on board with our wheeling soft-sided cooler that was packed with waters, sodas and beer..... no problem at all. Wheeled it into the terminal, put it thru the x-ray machine and wheeled it right on on board. We were not questioned at all. We had planned on taking it on the excursions with us but ended up not doing that and was happy with our decision. We took taxis in both Grand Cayman and Cozumel and feel the cooler would have been a hassle. Our stateroom host, Livingstone, did keep it packed with ice everyday for us. When we went ashore, we just took what we wanted and carried it in our beach bag.

we took our collapsable cooler and packed in our luggage with us the room steward kept it full of ice.... it kept better than the coolers left in the room... also it was nice if you wanted to put a few water bottles and keep them cold while you went on the excursions. had a nice shoulder strap just the perfect size for castaway cay... took it and kept it beside our chair kept our drinks nice and cold all day... I would just be careful not to get one to big... remember it has to be a certain size in order to carry in on the boat yourself or it will have to be taken as luggage to be delivered to your room if it is to large...also worked nice to put the wet swimsuit in to bring home so not to get the other clothes wet. or to bring home breakables that you may have bought...

have a great time

Wow!! My DW and I wanted to bring a couple bottles of wine anboard to consume on our verandah. We were going to "smuggle" it onbaord in our luggage.
It this really true? Can we just carry it onboard in a soft-side cooler?:earsgirl: :earsboy:

We took a soft side cooler on wheels on the 7/6 Western - pulled in right on board with no questions or problems.

It's true. You don't have to smuggle to bring it onboard on Disney. However you might want to pack it in your luggage anyway so they're more protected.

I posted earlier...we carried ours in a soft-sided cooler...straight thru check-in and x-ray...no problems...the couple we traveled with packed 2 bottles of wine in their luggage...wrapped in bubble wrap and clothes...they checked their luggage in...and it arrived broken in the room...the luggage handlers aren't as careful with the luggage as you would be with a cooler, so I would carry it on-board instead of packing it...they spent their 1st night of the cruise in the laundry room washing all their clothes!!

Had a similar experience to your hapless friends. I packed our soft-side with beer, wine, and bottled sparkling water, intending to roll it on board. But my DW had it checked (I was parking the car). One of the waters broke but the "damage" was contained to the cooler (although if you're going to have something leak into your clothes I guess soda water would be my choice). Our cabin steward carted off the broken glass, and then filled the cooler with ice for us!

I brought a soft sided cooler with soda and water in it (last time I do that, it would be less work to just buy the soda card!) and I checked it at the curb with my baggage and it got to the room fine...the only thing they said is that they do not want ice in it when they take it onboard, mine didn't have any in there so it wasn't a problem.

We just got back from our trip and we were able to take a soft sided cooler with us - no problem. We just gave it to the guys taking the luggage at the port and it showed up in our room. Our intention was to buy beer and wine but one thing I overlooked: We boarded on a Sunday and when we went to the store to buy beer and wine they couldn't sell it to us because it was before NOON!! Bummer! We ended up with only a six pack of pepsi and water and that was more effort than it was worth because we got the refillable mug and it was worth it!
