Are waitlists compared?

If 2 members have waitlists that are opposite of one another, does each member end up getting their request? I'm getting ready to attempt to switch resorts at the 7 month mark. Here's what I mean...
Our dates are December 30-January 7. We booked a 2 bedroom standard view at our home resort BWV at 11 months. When the 7 month mark hits I am going to waitlist for BCV because my girls love the pool there. If there is another member booked at BCV who waitlists for BWV, do the 2 reservations end up getting swapped?
Not sure I'm making sense, just a little curious about how the waitlist process works. We are happy with BWV and definitely thought it important to book at 11 months, but we would also be happy if we can switch to BCV.

No one knows for sure how the process works, but if there is someone wanting the reservation you have then yes they would get it.

Not sure what you mean by compared. If you mean do they try to match them, then no.

Conventional wisdom says that these types of wait list matching are not done. Have you considered posting on the Rent/Trade Board on the off chance that there is a DISer interested in your exact trade?
P.S. If you end up not getting BCV you can console yourself that it may not be warm enough to use the pool anyway.

Thanks for the input. We will be happy at our "home" or happy to switch to BCV. It seems the waitlist process is somewhat of a mystery! I will look into the rent/trade board.

No, the wait list system isn't set up for this kind of analysis. It only "searches" the available inventory, so even if Member A and Member B are wait listed for the exact reservation each other has, the wait list system wouldn't recognize that.

Could be a cool thing to have a cancellation thread like they do on the dining boards, where people post what they'll be canceling and when so someone who needs it can be on the lookout online to try and snatch it up. Probably would be too cumbersome a thread, though/

I guess it was too much to hope that inventory would be compared! I'll have to go with checking online once a day. I need to limit myself to once a day or I'll start obsessively checking all day long! Any recommendations on best times to check?

Oh wow! I think that New Year's Eve night is going to be the killer in terms of switching resorts or getting a waitlist though. I've heard it books solid!
