Are tickets plastic now?

This is a silly question, but I figured why not ask it.

So, I sent away for 10-day tickets for some members of our party and I was sent 7 plastic tickets. I thought all tickets were of the "special-type-of-paper" variety. Are these plastic tickets just vouchers? I don't think they are as they have a place for people to sign them on the back. Are they changing over to plastic now?

I've never had a paper ticket, only plastic.

Me too, however I know that AP's are paper, or at least were recently. Which seems silly, as you would want something more durable for an annual ticket don't you think?

I read on these boards once that you get plastic ones when you have a "plus" feature (waterparks) so they don't fall apart if they get wet.

I don't know if this is how they do it or not, but ours are plastic and we have the plus features for the waterparks.

They're not plastic or paper (I'm talking just passes to the parks, I have no idea about the kind with the water park option), they are Tyvek and VERY durable. I go to WDW about 2 times per month, go in and out of the parks many times and have never had an issue with the material.

I've had both plastic (room-key type tickets) and the "paper" type which seems to be what they sell to us UK visitors - even if waterparks are included! :thumbsup2

My PAP is paperish, but if you have the tickets added to your room, the room key (which is plastic) is your ticket into the parks also. DD (works for Disney) purchased tickets as a gift for my neice and it happens to be the same paperish type that my Premium Annual Pass is (so that shoots the theory on the water parks plastic theory, since my PAP is for all the parks, water parks and Disney Quest). The Mickey's not so scary tickets I purchased are plastic. Don't know why some are paperish and some are plastic.

I suspect it is a lot less expensive to make up plastic tickets than Tyvek tickets, so the really expensive tickets, like the PAP, will be more likely to be on Tyvek, while the single-event tickets would be more likely to be on plastic.

mine look like credit cards - same size - are these the actual tickets i use going into the parks, or do they change them when i check in?

hmm strange? When we bought our tickets last summer from the disney store they were paper. My AP is paper. Hmm. I wonder when I buy them this year if they will be paper or plastic? I prefer the plastic- or whatever they are made of- ones- they are easier to locate in a bottomless wallet.

Looks like we've moved to the age old grocery store question paper or plastic? :rotfl2:

How do you put the paper ones in the Fastpass machine?

Here is my experience with "paper or plastic" if it helps...

When we stayed off disney property, our tickets were paper. Since we've stayed ON disney property, the tickets are plastic.

anyone else have it this way too?

The plastic passes are the only ones that can be used as room keys, because the room locks are older technology and require the lower-tech plastic media. We always stay on-site, but have had the Tyvek admission tickets for at least the last few years, simply because we don't put our admission and room key on the same pass.

I just ordered mine from Ticketmania. Their website said they would be the paper type. I haven't gotten them yet so I can't say for sure. My Disney Store was selling the plastic ones but they were more expensive than ticketmania. WDW website was the same price as the Disney store but charged $3 for shipping. I'm not sure what type they sell. I've heard that if you are staying on site (as we are) the cms at the resort can add your separately purchased tickets to your room key, though not all cms know how to do this. I'm planning to try to do this when we get there.

I believe prior to 1997 the tickets were always paper. Since then I had plastic, but yes that was when I stood on Disney property. And if you buy them at the Disney store, which I have, they are plastic from there too. :thumbsup2

I just came back from WDW. I had a plastic credit card type green voucher to redeem for an AP, which I traded in upon arrival at the TTC and recieved the paper type pass.

What kind you get depends entirely on where you buy it.

Plastic:
by phone from WDTC/CRO
online from Disney.com
in person at any Disney resort

Paper:
in person at any park ticket booth or Guest Relations
by phone or mail from a ticket wholesaler
in person from an off site authorized Disney ticket seller (think hotel lobbies)

AP/PAP/SP's are ALWAYS on the paper ones. The exchange voucher you are sent is plactic but the actual tickets will be paper.

I'm already on my second PAP this year. My first one stopped scanning because I guess it got some wrinkle in my wallet. My new one got a nice crease put it in there by one of the turnstyles at MGM so I bet I'm not far from my 3rd PAP in almost as many months.

You'd think it'd just be easier to give people the plastic ones and just charge for issuing new ones.

The ones I just ordered from ticketmania were paper. Sure would be nice to have plastic- esp at the water parks. The ones we got last year were paper also(from ticketmania) and both years we have water park admissions on them. My Mom's AP is paper too :confused3 :confused3
