Are the room keys really being scanned now for the FOTL access?

They are now scanning the cards, not to tell you if you can or can't go, but to tell how many express cards to give out.

Huh? You put your card in the scanner and you get a card?

I think he means the express cards for the general public. They have to "compute" FOTL people into the equation so they'll be able to be accurate with them.

Ohhh okay, Thank you Debbie! I havent been back since the new machines were installed and have no idea how the new syatem works. So a question then...are you still able to get right back on the same ride or do you have to wait an hour?

We were just there last week and stayed on-site at PBH. If you are staying on-site, you give your room key to the ride attendant person at the front of the express line and he slides it through a little hand held scanner, kind of like swiping a credit card. Then he gives back the room key and you go on ahead. Each person in the party needs to get the room key swiped. There were a couple of rides that the attendant never swiped our keys, but most of them did.

Thanks mouseclick1, do you know if you had to wait an hour before you could go back to that same ride?

We didn't have to wait with our room keys. I don't know if it would be different if we were using the tickets out of the machine. We rode Men in Black three times in a row using our FOTL access. We exited the ride each time and got right back in the express line without any problems.

Thanks, that's what I wanted to here. Of course it may change before we go in April when the crowds pick up.

They've been scanning room keys for a while. It just keeps count and can tell if you're a repeat rider (riding more than once within an hour). That's all. No limit on number of uses of your room key.

The machine printed express still has its normal limits: time, amount, etc.

Yes Sir, my kids fit that profile of repeat rider and of course I must follow.;) Thanks for the additional info!

Dark Marauder, Is it likely that there won't be a limit in busier times? IE spring vacation? I can handle the once an hour if that's what it is, but would love to be a repeat rider at certain rides, such as MIB.

The scanning started last summer and has continued with no limits on room keys since then. Even during the super-busy Christmas-New Years rush, there were no limits on room key usage for express. Feel free to re-ride MIB with your express until you hit 999999. :p

LOL about riding MIB until I get to 999,999! I might have to move there if I'm going to have that goal. My sister and I are printing off the hints and will study them before, during, and after our rides. We're not giving them to our husbands, though, so we can kick alien and husband butts. ;) My daughter did best in our family last time down so I have high hopes that she will max out.

Last year during Presidents' week we were at US and they were not scanning or for that matter even checking very closely the room keys. Some of the FOLA lines were so long. This year during President's week with them scanning the room keys, all of the lines were very short and manageable. It must go into their computer as fboy9287 says to determine how many express tickets to give out. It is really working well.

We just returned yesterday, and YES they scan room keys for FOTL at almost every attraction

Does everyone in the party need a seperate room key? Even small children, or does one key let us all in?

Every person in the group is given a room key with their name on it. For yournger adventurers, their age is on the card. When you enter, all the keys have to be scanned. When you board, they only need to look at one card.

That's not always true. Some attractions have the scanner at the second checkpoint, though most are at the front. The best thing is just to keep the cards out and ready after getting past the greeter.
