Are these actually regular prices? The premise of the article I found these in was "Low cost meals". http://recipes.sparkpeople.com/cookbooks.asp?cookbook=58000

Taco Soup
Cookbook creator says: $15.34 for 9 servings, $1.70 per serving, $6.81 to serve 4: 1 lb. lean ground beef ($3.50)(ground chuck $2.38, I don't pay more than $1.99), 14oz. can tomato sauce ($2.50)(.78 store brand), 14 oz. can diced tomatoes w/chilies ($1.65) (.95 store brand), 4oz. can chopped green chilies ($1.60)I don't know, not something I buy), 2 cans corn ($2.30)(.50 for store brand or .78 for name brand - I don't pay more than .40), 2 cans kidney beans ($2.50)(.85-.78 reg/store brand), 1 pkg. taco seasoning ($1.29) (.75 name brand)

I added our regular prices in red. I found some of the prices to be shockingly high.

Sadly, that's what I'd be looking at for prices... I just made chili last week, and most of those are within 25 cents of what I paid on stuff. The ground beef, maybe 2.99; and the corn maybe 30 cents too much but otherwise, yeah.... here on Cape Cod (and most of New England, I think)

The ground beef is only slightly higher than I pay but everything else is way higher!

:scared1: I thought they were just over inflated.

I can easily make that dish for $6.00 or less by using coupons, store brands and price matcing.

Another Southeastern MA consumer here and yes-those prices would be accurate-if not higher in some instances such as the ground beef. I've noticed an even bigger jump in prices over the past few months too in almost all my groceries!

They are in the right ball-park for prices near me. But a lot of that stuff I wouldn't pay regular price for - I'd stock up when it goes on sale.

They look about right to me also, (NY)
I no longer buy many store brands as I find they add lots of salt and I usually by salt free versions when I can (which is even more $$) but worth it for us. In addition, organic is even more....

my prices are more in line with Tonilea's. Maybe a little less actually.

Yup, prices are roughly in line with groceries here in NJ. We pay more for everything. I bet our property taxes would put the fear of the creator in you.

Your red prices match up to my prices.

For those of you in a high cost area, you should drive to Disney next time and make a detour to TN on the way home and stock up on groceries!

Our beef is more than that, most stuff was what I pay (I checked our shoprite's website), but our beans can be as low as 70 cents a can. Gotta love NJ!

Chicago area jumping in -- prices are in line with non-sale Jewel/Osco or Dominick's prices. You can get lower prices at Aldi's or Meier's, but they probably just go to the top area food store for their prices.

That said, even $15 to feed 9 people is still a good deal, IMO.

:lmao: I suspect you are right, I bet my property taxes would make you cry. I have never posted them on here, because they are so low.

Ground beef is definitely right unless you are buying in bulk. I like these somewhat more realistic prices than some websites I see with cheap meals and the prices are ridiculously low.
