Are There Venomous Snakes at WDW?

I live within a couple of miles of WDW property. I've lived here over ten years. In that time, I've seen many snakes, but no venomous ones. The majority of the ones I see are black racers. They are harmless. There are venomous snakes in the area, but I've never seen one. Of course, I don't go poking around in brush or near the water. Occasionally, we will hear on the news that someone in the area was bitten by a pygmy rattler.

If you stay on the paths and don't reach in the bushes or brush, you'll be fine.

Saw a black snake at CBR in August along the walking path to the Port Royale bus stop.....it was DEAD. it was there for several days decomposing. I hate snakes! However, I was more concerned about the three 4ft tall birds that followed my DH and I to our car. They were pretty and just curious but a little freaky since they were almost as tall as me.

They had to be sand cranes. They are very social birds. If you speak to them, they will follow you. I love those birds!

None.
Just stay on the designated walking paths. You’ll be fine.

Over 60 WDW stays, never had a snake in my room, not even one of those little lizard guys! I've seen black racers several times though, but they're harmless (well, providing you don't have a heart attack when seeing one!)
Yes, there was a situation where a snake was happily living in the sliding door valance. But, that was a loooong time ago. If it makes you feel better, check the valance when you get to your room. Believe me, snakes don't want to be near you either!!!
As far as being outside, as already noted, stay on the walkways. I've come across a black racer (water snake) at SSR down by the golf shop area. He was just trying to get across the walkway. He sure did move a lot faster when my friend saw him and started screaming like a banshee!!!!. Saw one curled up, sunning himself along the walkway between BW and DHS. Even had one swim by me at Typhoon Lagoon..that was a bit disconcerting. I've heard of them getting bothered when a water ride has to be evacuated.

Basically, just stay where you're supposed to be. Don't go reaching into any bushes. When I play mini-golf down there, if my ball goes into the bushes, it stays there...I get a new one!!!!!

Kaa is a constrictor, so he wouldn't be venomous

For those who don't know, an old DISboards legend centers around a claim of snakes falling into a ride vehicle of Space Mountain. This is generally considered to be unfounded for those worried.

Call ahead and request a No Snakes Room. There’s no guarantee you’ll get it, but they’ll add a note to your reservation and do their best to accommodate you.

Like TipsyTraveler said, just have them add a "no snakes room" to your reservations, has worked for me at the campground requesting "no snakes campsite"

At the rest area on I-4 between Orlando and Tampa there are signs warning of venomous snakes in the area. So of course DH had to go to the end of the grassy area and start looking into the woods.

Last September we saw a yard long snake on the pool deck that is outside of the laundry at POR - no expert so wouldn't know what it was or if it was dangerous - we all just gave it space to disappear into the undergrowth - saw a similar but much smaller one later in POFQ just on the sidewalk outside of Block 2.

We have seen one at Ak, under a bench, and last November, one was going across the sidewalk, in the evening, right by where you come out by Simba's Cubhouse at AKL. Another guest shooed him along - but he went right up by where the rooms/patios were. One of the reasons we ask to be on the highest floor..

Also, a bartender at AKL was bit one day by a cottonmouth that found its way into the bar. What a way to start your shift...

I know of one instance where a snake got into a room on the first floor. The guest left their sliding door open for hours and ended up with a roommate.

I was on the Jungle Cruise and there was a huge python hanging from a tree! I suppose that doesn't really count though because pythons are non-venomous.
