Are there ever any hotel discounts?

My DH and I are making our first ever trek to DL the last week of October. I'm trying to find a nice hotel within walking distance and wondered if there's anyplace to check for hotel discounts? We're used to staying at WDW with either a discount code or renting points from a DVC member, so rarely pay "rack rate". Is it too soon for deals for October? Also, will there be deals for DL tix later on? I see the current promotion is thru 4/28.

I know about AAA and AARP discounts, but wondered if there's ever any deals for the on-site DL resorts?

They typically run AP rates for Sept thru early Dec, excluding Thanksgiving. They are a great deal. I think they come out in July. You can always reserve at regular rate and change it when the discount comes out. If no one in your party has an AP, I would suggest checking package rates like AAA, Costco or Getaway Today. They often have one night free plus extras like character meals, lanyards and gift cards thrown in. Keep checking, finding the best deal is half the fun!

There are some offsite hotels that are closer to the gates of DL/DCA than one or two of the onsites...

Some of the hotels/motels should be doing a 4th night free during October. You also might get 5 day Park Hopper for the price of 4. If you are flying there also could be a kids fly free during that time.

I stayed at the BWPPI in September 2007 and got the fourth night free. The Best Western is right across the street.
