Are there ever any exceptions to the rule?

I probably know the answer, before I ask!!

We had a family trip planned this June--2BR and a studio reserved. My sister's family of five, myself and my then to be husband, my married son and his wife, and my 15-y-o daughter. This would have been a total of 10 people. Since we had room for extra, I invited my 9-y-o grandson to enjoy the trip with us. Bringing the total to 11--4 in the studio, and 7 in the 2 BR. I found out yesterday that my son and d-i-l cannot be there, because she has started a new job with no time off in June. We are now down to 9 people. If I had not added my grandson, we could all fit into the 2 BR, thus saving points, and making accessibility to both parties easier. I can't uninvite a 9 year old who is so excited about the trip.

Do they ever, under any circumstance, allow 9 people in a 2 BR. My grandson is very small for 9, and sleeping arrangements would not be a problem, but I'm sure the maximum capacity is probably due to fire code, right? I've probably answered my own question, but wanted to check, just in case. The point saving wouldn't be such a big deal, but we are planning a trip next February with some of my fiancee's family, and every point counts.

I was just thinking that since some of the new AKL value rooms will allow 5, and I know that some POR rooms do, also, that maybe there could be an exception.

Regardless of how this turns out, I know we will have a wonderful time, and I'm hoping OKW is everything I've imagined.

Thanks!:flower3:

Here we go again: IMO "It is better to ask forgiveness than permission."

Anyone want to take bets on how long it takes the mods to close this?

MS has allowed it not uncommonly, call them and ask them it you can put 9 in the 2 BR. Personally I'd keep the extra studio, the extra space is worth in IMO. You should know by now that Disney is nothing if not inconsistent. As for just taking 9 and keeping your mouth shut as some others might suggest, that would be dishonest though it is done as well with a lot more than 1 over at times.

Why not just call and ask? It's a long trip just to get there and find out someone will not have a room. As far as begging forgiveness, begging won't help when the Cm say's "sorry but local regulations do not allow the extra person in the room" call ahead and plan accordingly. Besides you already planned on using the points, maybe you can invite someone else, I'm not busy in June!

It's not the "smallness" of the person, but the number of feet that need to evacuate from the villa should a fire break out. Nine is too many for a two bedroom unless one is under the age of three. Keep the studio and enjoy your stay.

I agree. Three and nine are a far cry from each other.

Do the right thing, you'll sleep better at night.

You don't need to call and ask--you can do whatever you want to do. What are they going to do if they find out you have an extra person in your room--throw someone out?? :confused3 Having said that, I would still keep the studio so everyone is more comfortable.:cloud9:

If you put nine in the room and only tell DVC you've got 8, you will only get 8 keys. Thus all 9 of you would not be able to use EMH if you wanted to.

Since occupancy issues are such a hot topic, all further discussions should be placed on the designated occupancy thread. For that reason, this thread is being closed.
