Are there "Bad" rooms at BLT?

Yikes, I just read a trip report and now I'm nervous about getting a crappy room for our first DVC trip.

When we check in, exactly what should we ask for? We have a LV reserved and had previously asked for a "high" floor.

Are there bad rooms at BLT? What makes a view bad there?

You need to make requests on your reservation, not when you check in.

There has been talk that DVC is going to start charging for changes to assigned rooms made at check in now that on line check in is available.

no all the rooms are good some are great

Sorry I had a HORRIBLE Magic Kingdom view room last week. t was so low I could make eye contact with people walking in the parking lot.

Had it been a standard view it would have been okay but not when I paid premium points for it.

Yes, I would say the potentially "bad" rooms are the ones that are designated an MK view but on the low floors (4th, 5th, 6th?). I agree with you, Slakk. Using that many points and you're mere feet above the tops of parked cars?? I hope they re-categorize some of those rooms and make them standard. In August we had a 1BR MK view reserved. We were originally put on the 4th floor but luckily we were able to switch to a villa on the 11th floor - the difference was like night and day.

What constitutes a good view or a bad view is very subjective. Much depends on your expectations and perceived value of the view. In another thread, a person mentioned that they were very unhappy that they were assigned a room on BLT's 6th floor and demanded something higher, while another person raved about their view on the 5th floor. I suggest that you look at Work2Play's excellent thread on BLT rooms and views that is on the Planning board (see http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2257082). She has put in a lot of work mapping out the rooms, booking categories, and views. After getting a feel for BLT's layout, call Member Services and request a general room location. For example, if you ask for an even numbered room on BLT's north crescent, you stand a chance of seeing some of MK and the fireworks show.

I hope you get something you like!

Reports have shown that the most disappointing rooms are MK view low floor level (3rd, 4th, and possibly 5th floor). The disappointment is caused by the belief that for those extremely high point MK views, DVD management should have had enough common sense (rather than their too often displayed despicable "greed" sense) not to make lower floors that look directly at the parking lot cost MK view points. Other complaints have been that some lake view rooms look directly at the Contemporary rather than any lake.

Then those should probably be recatagorized as "standard veiw" as well---

I booked a lake view for my past September trip and was disappointed. Not disappointed enough that I would ever make a scene or complain or even ask for a room change, but disappointed nonetheless. I think that, given that my view was basically a view of the Contemporary that it should have been classified as a standard view. With that said, my solution is just that I won't be using extra points to book anything but a standard view from now on. But, even if you do have a "crappy" view, you'll still be at Disney!! :goodvibes

This is what's bothering me about our upcoming BLT "Lake View" 1 bedroom when we go in May. Don't need to see the entire world, but would rather not have to look right at the Contemporary.

I booked two lake view rooms last week for my family and a friend's family who was travelling with us. I couldn't be happier with our view (we were in 7908) and had a full view of the lake and a good view on the MK when on the balcony. My friend on the other hand (7930) looked straight on to the Contemporary and had to a glimpse of the lake if on the Balcony. Lesson learned that your mileage can vary greatly with your actual view. I did check with the front desk to verify my friend was indeed in a LV, the CM was willing to move my friend, but I said it wasn't necessary if the room was catagorized correctly although I appreciated the offer.

kept in mind that you will be going to WDW and staying at BLT for 50 years.

okay probably less.

the time to complaint is when you get a bad view 3 times - then complaint -loudly.

everyone should expect a bad view several times - it is just that all the DVC resorts have bad views - just like WDW resort.

now that say if I get a floor 5 and under with a MK view - then would still complaint. really don't consider those MK view - so to pay that many points and have a bad view - is pretty bad.

the CR itself doesn't start their MK views until the 5th floor (6th floor at BLT)

the excuse was the lobby, restuarant, gym, shops are on those floors. that was in the design folks - so why - because Disney management at the time like to protect their guests from bad views.

the Polyn and CR probably have some of the best views because of this.

still even the polyn has a few rooms - there is a conceirge view with a tree in front of it.

don't know why DVC did not realize this. the side view (north) view is standard but that is because of a service area located there. (for 1-5th floors)

you know now not sure if I would complaint - the second thing that I love is the monrail - and those rooms would have a great view of the monrail.

The difference between getting a bad view at BLT versus other places is the extra COST associated. My crappy parking lot oooops I mean MK view cost me the same amount of points as if I had a TWO Bedroom Lake view...

When I got the 2 Bedroom overlooking the laundry at VWL and every morning at 4:30 am got the trash trucks it was annoying but it was the luck of the draw. I did not pay EXTRA to get that view.

That is the rub.

I have been annoyed with DVC before but for the first time I really feel taken by them and wish I could sell my points. We have 330 and are putting 3 50 point contracts up for sale.

We have two Marriott EOY contracts and will use those for our major vacations.

I recently stayed at BLT with a "Lake View" in September. I have to admit, I expected more. I stayed on the 2nd floor towards the front of the building. I had a nice view of the dumpster and the laundry area. I could clearly watch the fireworks from where I was as well. I am by no means complaining but in my head I envisioned staying on a higher floor, probably because I kept thinking "Tower". With that being said, even though where I was staying is not what I pictured, the quietness of where I was was fantastic. I could see all the Birds down on the Beach area of the lake. I couldn't hear the noise out front even though I was fairly close to it. So, it was sort of a trade off.

So are there bad rooms? No, the rooms themselves are great.
Are there bad views? Honestly, it all depends on perspective I guess.

Hey again. We just got back from our WDW trip late last night.

Here's the scoop on the view we got:

1. When making the res. we requested a "high floor". I also called twice more to make sure this was on the res.

2. We were given 7805, on the 8th floor (good enough for me). We were toward the end of the curve so for the most part, we were facing the opposite curve (lots of other rooms). I did not find this "complainable" since many, many others had to look at us too. :)

3. Besides #2, we had a view of the pool, the lake and the marina. It was OK enough since we take frequent, shorter trips and pack a lot in. That means we don't hang out in our room or out on the balcony much, not that that doesn't sound nice and relaxing.....

4. We used the lounge twice (one time for Monday Night Football--Go Steelers!) Loved it--so attactive, upscale and welcoming and we viewed the fireworks from the deck once. We weren't even at BLT most of the times the fireworks were firing.

We decided we would NOT be inclined to spend more points on a MK view. The LV is just fine and every time we caught the elevator we could look at the MK or we could hang out in the lounge.
