Are There Any Downsides To Having A Bunk Bed Room?

This will be our first stay at WL for our Nov 30 - Dec 7th trip.

After seeing pics of the rooms that have 1 queen/bunkbeds I'm seriously thinking of requesting one.

My DD will be 13 and my DS will be 9 during our trip and when we stay at other resorts one ends up sleeping on the day bed because they need their own space (oh the problems :o ) Sooooooooo my question is are there any downsides to having one of those rooms with the bunkbeds? Does it make the room seem more tight? Does Woodsview and/or Courtyard views have this combo?

Thanks in advance for any help.:D

When we were at WL back in Oct. we had a courtyard view with bunkbeds. The only downside I noticed is that the room did seem kind of dark - there is a small light over the top bunk but it doesn't put out much light. A good point, tho, is that you get night tables on both sides of the queen bed - I think the regular rooms just have one between the 2 queen beds. It was nice to not have to share with my DH.:D Hope this helps.:)

It is hard to sit on the bottom bunk and watch t.v. and at night the bottom bunk is really dark - no light like the top bunk has. Also - the top bunk person usually gets tired of climbing up and down.

My G-Kids have had the bunk-beds a few times just in March actually....they are 4&6. Just want to say the top and bottom bunk are quite close together...as the previouse poster said not much room to sit up. The ladder is built into the bunks and rail all around the top....Being little kiddos they enjoyed them.

We had a woodsview with bunkbeds. My kids LOVED the bunk beds(10 and 6 yrs). They thought that was the best thing. It really prevented a lot of problems and helped them go to sleep! :) We did not think it was too dark. My DS was on top bunk and loved it up there, especially the little light.

We had bunkbeds in both courtyard and woods view rooms. We'd booked courtyard but no bunks were available the first night , so we had a woods view bunk room the 1st night then they moved us. We specifically wanted bunks for DD and DS, step siblings--- pre-teens at the time. As other posters have said, the room might seem a little darker, and the usual caution with kids and bunkbeds applies. Our kids would just flop on the queen to watch TV while DH and I sat on the chairs or balcony. We didn't spend a lot of time in the room anyway...it was great for them to each have their "own" bed!

With the bunkbed the rooms seem larger than if you have just two queens. Kids like them. However, biggest problem can be sibling rivalry--

DD: I want the top bunk

DS: No I get it.

DD: Mom, DS won't let me have the top bunk

Mom: Please don't argue about it

DS: Mom, I want the top bunk

DD: I'm taking it

DS: No you're not (jumps into top bunk). I'm staying here and will never let you in.

DD: Mom, DS won't get out of my bed

Mom: Look, I am unpacking now, can we discuss it later.

DS: (Sticking out tongue) See, I'm keeping it.

DD: Mom, he's sticking his tongue out at me again.

Dad: That's it! DS, out of that bed and if you stick that tongue out again I'll take it right off. DD and DS, forget it. You get the queen. Mom and Dad are sleeping in the bunks.

That was funny... I can see that going on... As for the bunk beds... I think they would be great. It is a nice way for younger kids to have their own beds. The only downside to bunk beds I can think of would be the fighting about who got what bunk. Like it was said above 80% of your Disney trip will be outside the room... So a darker room would not be bad as the 20% or so spent in the room will be sleeping time.

We have stayed in the bunk rooms three times over the years and now that my teen boys are bigger than DH and I, they are a little too small. They are still willing to stay in them though.

Solution to bunk problem:

Coin toss the first night, alternate nights after that. Works like a charm.
