about the new free transportation.
As much as i loved taking our towncar from the airport and as much as i hate mears....u still cant beat free and save 100.00 for the free ride even though they may not go directly to ur resort.

Is this a permanant thing they are going to do?

I am not sure if this will be permanent or not. We used FL Tours for our Christmas trip and they were great! I agree for free I will use Disney for our May trip. We were going to rent a car because we will need groceries. Now I will use wegoshop.com and pay for their delivery fees and still be money ahead. Plus, I won't have to waist my time grocery shopping! :cheer2:

We will be some of the first to try out the new transportation. We leave May 14th. :cheer2:

I think that many who use car services because of the grocery stop will continue to do that, and of course people who use a limo will also continue to do so.

The people who the car service companies will lose are those who used a car service only because the number of people in their party made a car service less expensive or the same cost as Mears.

This information was in a news letter from Diznews:

"The service will be complimentary during the 18 months of
Disney's "Happiest Celebration on Earth." It commemorates the 50th
anniversary of the opening of Disneyland in California, the company's
first theme park. Details such as cost haven't been worked out for
the service beyond the celebration."

Keep in mind that you might have to stop at many other Disney resorts before it gets to yours. Just for this fact alone I would not use the service.

I might try the free service once, but if it was a cattle call with lots of other resort stops, I would go right back to Happy Limo. For our cruises, we haven't used the DCL buses in a long time. We took one one-way when we did our "hurricane cruise" because it was free, and I wouldn't do it again even if I didn't have to pay. Our party had to split up because the bus they put us on was almost full, and for the whole trip, the kids in the row in front of me played with their recline buttons. Not worth it, even complimentary.

What occurred to me was that they might find people using the luggage transfer, but making their own way to the resorts. If you don't need to take the bus, it might be worth it to not have to wait for your luggage in the airport.

Kungaloosh!
Morticia.

An owner of one of the limo companies (Quicksilver) posts on another board. He is not very happy at all about this whole process.

The conversation can be seen here.

I will still take a town car.

There will always be people who will prefer to take a towncar, or limo, especially if the trip is for a special occasion. I don't think the limo companies will hurt too much. I know I will still use a limo service, or even a taxi. But this will give people a great option.

As far as Quicksilver, I tried to use them once, and they never showed at the airport. :earseek:

If anything, the magic express may get all the limo companies to work harder on their customer service, and have more competitive pricing.

I'll stick to my own car or car service. After sitting in an airport, then a plane...spending probably 6 - 7 hours total travel time to get to MCO, then to wait for the 'shuttle'...no thank you...I'll stick with what I know and love...

We're on vacation. If $100 is going to break you, you probably should not be on a vacation to Disney in the 1st place JMHO.

We will still use the Town Car service. I think most people who use TC use it because the've tried Mears (which is the same company doing the free service) and do not like the wait to be 'organized' and then filed into busses in certain order and making 2-6 stops before getting to their resort.

It's a vacation and that's part of the 'special treatment' we loom forward to.

My husband and I could not agree with this statement more.

We always rent a car and use it to go offsite during our stay, so we will continue with that.

Town car for us! I like the whole idea of not being on a shuttle... :flower1:

I have a question if you all don't mind and that is that I will still plan on taking the towncar to my resort so I don't waste any time getting there and starting to play as we're doing a land/sea package but can you take the disney transportation back to the airport as well for free? Do they offer that because if so, I would definitely take advantage of that. We are spending extra $$ going back to DW for 3 nights after the cruise so it would greatly help to save any money possible. Thanks for your help.
