Are the filets really disappearing?

The Filet is still on the All Ears menu at Kona. I will be very disappointed if I can't get it...that is why I chose that restaurant.

Hmm...that menu is from Feb. 2008. I wish we knew for sure.

That would be GREAT, thank you!

I ate at Kona's last Monday July 28th and the filet was on the menu. That is what I ordered.

I wouldn't notice as I don't order them. But it would be interesting if that's what's happening. Would it also be true of the signature restaurants or just the 1-credit DDP ones?

Well I guess we need to call the dinning line and ask a CM !!!!!!

Many of the dining line CMs know nothing about the restaurant menus. Some are not even based at WDW.

The only restaurant that concerns me is our upcoming September trip to Le Cellier.
If they pulled the filet then the only other item I was truly interested in is the NY strip. Both cost the same. If this is a move to save money then it would stand to reason the strip would be pulled as well.
Which would leave a fairly "un-steakish" menu for a restaurant that calls itself a Steak house.
However ... it's all speculation at this point. I won't know until I get there in the end of September I suppose.

I NEVER eat steak at restaurants, but had the maple filet at Le Cellier last year (so did SIL) and thought it was heavenly. We made ADRs for our upcoming trip just to have it again and then we saw that it is no longer on the menu!:sad1: I do not like mushrooms so would not order the mushroom filet. Guess I will end up with fish at the steakhouse!;)
She also had the Kona filet that trip and thought it was delicious as well - she was pushing to go back there too to have that again, but we decided on some other places.

I love a good filet mignon as much as the next guy. I really do. I especially love them cooked on a very hot outdoor grill until the outside is slightly charred and the inside is medium rare. Just delicious!

But, honestly, I'd like to see a few less filets on the menus and a few more interesting beef-based dishes. A guy can only eat so many filets in one vacation!

If Disney could let their chefs cut loose a little bit, and have far fewer de rigeur menu items, I'd have a much better experience. I was honestly shocked the first time we were on the DDP back in December of 2006, and every restaurant had basically the same menu. The further they get from that, the happier I'll be.

(Now, of course, if Disney's removing the filet and simply replacing it with some other de rigeur item that will be in every frickin' restaurant in the World, then no thank you!)

When the World Showcase first opened, the restaurants were the equal of any. The food was gourmet quality. It stayed that way for quite awhile. I miss those days:(.

I will be really upset if the steaks are being pulled. I rarely eat out and I never cook myself a steak. They only taste good on the barbeque-and I just don't have the time or patience to do that for one little steak.

You can order the mushroom filet without mushrooms. They only add the mushrooms on after the steak is cooked. So, if you still want filet at Le Cellier, this is an option.

Me, too!:thumbsup2

Shoot, I remember when WDW offered 'World Class Dining" and now the restaurants are all offering the same, old, boring entrees, no matter which restaurant you happen to dine.

I'm so sad I missed those days. :sad1:

In the 80's my FIL's gourmet club scheduled a 5 day trip to WDW. This was a very sophisticated group of men and definitely food snobs. They thought nothing of taking a trip to London or Paris to try a new restaurant. The Epcot restaurants had the reputation and the quality was that good.

Wow. It's hard for me to imagine Biergarten or Akershus as high quality restaurants! I sure missed out.

How would you say the Epcot restaurants of that time would compare in quality and experience to today's "Signature" restaurants?

I don't believe Askerhus was opened then and I'm not sure about Biergarten. They spent most of their time in the English and French restaurants. The food was more on par with Victoria and Alberts. Children were not encouraged to eat at the restaurants.

Wasn't Norway added later - I don't know that Akershus would have been there at the time.

I'm too young to really remember the heyday of dining at disney. I do remember eating at the Top of the World, and in the Empress Room? on the Empress Lilly as a child. The adults in my family really enjoyed the dining - we would book what was called the Gold Key or Grand Plan (much like today's plat and premium) mainly for the food.

I was, and still am, a steak lover and have them prepared plain or with simple seasoning, so even if I had been older, I wouldn't have fully appreciated the finer offerings. In my tastes, there are still some great steaks to be found on disney property, although I must admit I miss the prime rib that they used to have at Crockett's Tavern. None of the current restaurants at Disney can quite replicate that flavor.

Bummer. I hope it's still on the menu at Kona next month...My DH likes them because he doesn't like fat on his steaks. I mean, he can cut around it on a strip, but it still kind of grosses him out.
