Are the Days of Walking a DVC Reservation Numbered?

The day before my 11months+7, the walker has already claimed 6 of my days. I'm there right when booking for my week opens, but they have jumped the line and grabbed 6 of my days (soon to be all 7)
No you showed up to the Black Friday sale at 8 am because the store listed that as opening time and when you went to walk in the door they told you the line starts back there.

They got them because they showed up a different day and booked as though their trip wasn’t the same as yours.

If I am going November 1st to 8 and you are going the 6th to the 13th, I am showing up in the 1st…because my trip starts then.

I am still taking the 6th to the 8th from you but the difference between me and a walker is that I am using them.

As long as there is a plus7, the 11 month window isn’t one day…it js a group of days.

Actually that is not true. No one is getting past the rope ever. All nights are being booked 11 nights plus 7.

But, the walker is showing to the rope on an earlier day so they can grab them as part of someone else’s plus 7 and now don’t need to show up on that additonal day.
Except for those evil DVD employees blocking out maintenance rooms!

Oh, I didn’t intend to mean you in particular. I was referencing more the 8 pages of various people treating walking like a Spanish Inquisition.
This is a topic that gets people going, for sure.

You've probably guessed that I am not a fan of "walking" reservations. It's not good for the overall program, and I fear that "walking" will beget even more "walking." I may start doing so just as a defensive move. We almost always stay in one-bedroom or larger units, so the need to do so may be less.

DVC should either normalize the practice, incorporate it into the rules, and put it on the website so all owners can truly know and avail themselves of the opportunity to do so or eliminate the practice. In the middle of these two opposing ends, some number of free reservation modifications are allowed, after which the owner is charged a fee for further modifications.

I prefer the last. Everyone would know the rules and have an even playing field, as was intended. Everyone would still have the opportunity to flexibly modify a reservation at no cost, and, lastly, the opportunity to walk would be preserved if an owner wants to pay for it.

And I respect your right not to like walking and will abide by whatever rules DVC makes.

We both haven’t made the 1k club yet. I think I’m probably not going join any time soon. So close yet I think I am going to have to be done for a long while
What ya got there, 763?
We are very close cousins :)

The one that said the 11 month window opened up your intended check out day…you were not supposed to book the days if your trip until you got to the 11 month window for what was your real check out day.
I’m unfamiliar, but regardless it’s a weak argument imo.

So you opted to extend your stay.
A lot more reasonable than walking, clogging reservations for 7 days that are not intended to be used.

I keep hearing that in this thread but where does it say walking isn’t allowed? I’ve seen a post quoting rules about being able to book at 11mo+7 and statements that it implies language to be exclusionary to say you can’t walk but that’s no different then a place having an opening time and saying that’s implying you can’t get there early.
"Reservation requests for DVC Resorts are taken on a first come, first servedbasis. All Vacation Homes are reserved on a space-available basis. To request a reservation at their Home Resort, ClubMembers may call Member Services or make a reservation online via the DVC Website no earlier than eleven (11) monthsprior to the desired check in day for a reservation of up to seven (7) consecutive days after the desired check in day."

The earliest you can book is 11 months from the day you want to check in. If your desired check in date is actually further than 11 months away and you are just looking to get into the system to have a reservation to modify forward, you are now trying to book your room ahead of the 11 month window, which is not allowed.

The computer system cannot guess when you make the reservation whether or not it is actually your check in day or if you plan on modifying it to a later check in date. But the system lets you modify the trip to a later day, assuming that you had a change in plans, which definitely can happen. So what makes it within/against the rules is the intention you have when originally making the reservation.

It is obvious that an extenuating circumstance that forces you to push out your trip by just a few day at a time (but not enough to have to cancel and rebook) happening over and over and over and over is exceedingly rare, but somehow it magically keeps happening to a bunch of members, all of whom booked the most in demand and hardest to book rooms. Go figure! 🤣
