Are Strip Clubs Normal/Acceptable?

I know what CAN go on in those places. I also happen to have 3 first cousins who dance in those clubs. I don't think any of them have done what you are alluding to.

I've also mentioned that I have a friend whose wife actually TELLS him to visit those clubs at least once a year... she likes it when he gets home. ;)

I swore I wasn't going to come back to this thread:rotfl: I have to tell you, that bolded sentence makes me nauseous:crazy2:

I think strip clubs are normal & acceptable provided you think that watching naked people dance around a pole to feed a drug habit is normal and acceptable........

Me personally, I'm not a big fan of the whole thing.......

Just curious, why do you think they're all on drugs? Most of the strippers I've ever seen (I'm a woman, and I have been to a few clubs with guy friends out of morbid curiosity) were in far too good of shape to make me think they were abusing their bodies with drugs. I knew a girl in high school who went on to be a stripper and she was actually doing it to avoid going on welfare so she could feed her child. She certainly wasn't on drugs. She made more money stripping than my fat butt made sitting in an office as a temp during college, that's for sure.

Last I heard she was working as a nurse.

Please stop calling them "dancers." Alvin Ailey is a dancer. Miss Sassy HotPants is not. She is a stripper. Sorry but the term dancer when used for strippers just annoys me. My own little pet peeve.

I still say though that I would not be thrilled at all but to each their own. There will be parents who will not let the kids be friends. Sounds silly but it will happen. Guaranteed that the first time one of those kids gets in trouble (even for something stupid and small) there will be all the "Well of course the poor kid is in trouble, look at her Dad." I'm not saying it is right but it is almost inevitable. Unfortunate but probable.

She sounds like an exception to me (and I am glad that she got out of the business).

Yes, it is a generalization re drug use. This does not mean it is not generally true though.

A "Gentlemen's" Clubs is a business. A brutal, cynical and sometimes dangerous business. Their "business plan" is more of the same. Here is how it works.

Owner: Usually involved with organized crime (if not an actual participant) & also a place where it is easy to gain access to illegal drugs. The owner also generally runs an escort service with his "professionals".

The owner has a core group of "professionals" (i.e. experienced dancers who have worked the circuit and/or entertain high rollers). These ladies are responsible for bringing the "new girls" up to speed. Most of these new girls are single mothers, have no job skills, have no family (or are alienated from them) & thus are easy prey. These "new girls" are "mentored" by the experienced dancers and very frequently drugs are supplied to the new girls to keep them from getting "nerves" onstage. Once they are hooked on the drugs, they are trapped in the lifestyle and usually "graduate" to full blown prostitution (call it an Escort service if you like, but I accept that it means the same thing as prostitution).

Make no mistake, the "new girls" are the victims of the whole thing & obviously provide the primary revenue stream for the Owners. I usually have issues with the whole "victimization mentality". But, in this specific case, victim is a good descriptor IMO.

The idea that is put about by some that these exotic dancers are Independent owner/operators (and somehow Feminist:confused3 ) who bravely make the best of a bad situation by selling their body on a temporary basis with no more effect to their emotional & physical well being than a cashier position at Walmart is a profoundly cynical argument that should be rejected out of hand.

I work in the Energy Industry. A lot of the "Old-timers" in my line of work frequent these "Gentlemen" Clubs. As recently as 10 yrs ago, there was an expectation on the Sales side (domestic and intl) that much client entertainment would take place at these kinds of places. Happily, this has changed over time (at least it has in the US- other countries- a mixed bag), and it is now more the exception than the rule and perfectly accepable to suggest that we go elsewhere (which is my preference).

Long story short. Not only are there real deal "Boom Boom Rooms" at these clubs, there is rampant drug use at the same clubs.

If you think I am off-base with my opinions, ask a friend or family member in law enforcement with knowledge of these kinds of clubs and see what they say.

Regards & JMO

Mr. Man, I'll back ya on at least a big ole chunk of what you are saying. I don't have anybody close to me who is intimately familiar with law enforcement---I have a personal relationship to a former club owner and some of her former dancers (long convoluted story, I won't go there). Knew them in the 70s and 80s when they were all in full swing in the life, still know some of them today. Yes some women do it just to make ends meet, for tuition money, to support their children without the assistance of deadbeat dads---and some of those feel better about themselves while they are doing it than others do. Others do it just because simple economics says that it is foolish (in their minds) to work a low paying job all week when you have the chance to make more than that in tips in one night. And yes some of them get out and get someplace better with their lives. But many don't, and it is tragic what happens to some of them.

I don't think that all men who go to strip clubs are scum, though some undeniably are. I don't think all women who work there are cheap/sleazy/drug addicted either. But I do know from what I've seen with my own eyes that the environment lends itself to both.

Then you have "massage parlors." Don't apply for a job that says "female massage therapist needed, no experience necessary, will train." Just a warning. :rotfl2:

I'll say this: one of my cousins who still dances in these clubs is 41 years old. AFAIK, she has never done any drugs except smoke some pot. She is college educated. In her prime earning years she was making 150K a year. She performs in high end clubs to this day.

She PAYS THE CLUB $150 a night to dance. She also has a contract where she must workout at least 10 hours a week. She is in awesome shape.

About 10 years ago she had a song that made it to about #50 on the college radio charts. She then signed a deal with DISNEY to sing a song for them... I don't know the details, but when Disney found out that she worked in gentlemen's club, they voided the deal.

I'm betting she still grosses 100K a year.

She can talk politics with you. She can talk football and baseball.... And she's maybe the nicest cousin I have.
