Are some days cheaper to fly than others?

I'm trying to decide whether I should book a package for Sun-Sun or if I should do a midweek like Tues-Tues.

I've heard that Sunday is one of the most expensive days of the week to travel. Can anyone confirm this??

Flying out of Dulles...JetBlue is the least expensive on Tuesdays/Wednesdays.

I don't want to give an across the board assumption as i am not familiar with other airlines.

It depends on many factors, so it would be hard to confirm.

To help you further, just as an example, flying rountrip (RT) from PHL to MCO December 7 (Tues) and returning one week later (December 14), the cost on US Airways or AirTran is approximately $149 for non stop flights.

If you left Sunday, December 5 and returned on Sunday, December 12 on these airlines, the cost for one adult passenger would range from $179 to $254.

On Southwest Airlines, December 7 (Tuesday) to December 14 (Tuesday) could be as low as $139, depending on the flights. For Sunday, December 5, and return on Sunday, December 12, the fare for an adult could be as low as $189. Of course, all of this is just relative and depends on availability and whether you make the reservations online, or through the airline reservation system, or if there are special promotions, etc.

So, for the days chosen your original question is Sun to Sun more expensive, it is for the days I chose at random for Philadelphia to Orlando RT. But, this could change, depending on many factors. Hope this helps as a very general answer to your basic question. But, you still might want to consider using a travel agent, if you are not sure about making reservations yourself, or for many other reasons.

I'm not really sure as to why you are so insistent on the OP using a TA. I haven't used a TA to book my flights in over 10 years. The OP merely asked if flying was cheaper on any particular day of the week. Don't think that needs a TA. Booking airfare, or even a pacakge (which I always advise against) is incredibly easy.

As a general rule, yes, travelling on Friday pm or Sunday will usually be the most expensive, particularly to resort destinations. Monday morning will be the next-most expensive. Most of the time, Tues, Wed and Saturday pm will be the least expensive.

Note that holidays and special events (big athletic events, political conventions, etc.) can cause those normally-cheaper days to be more expensive.

I think it depends on when you are flying. We are flying over spring break (end of March). I could have saved A LOT of money if we flew Sun - Sun or Mon-Mon...unfortunately I needed Sat - Sat and paid for it.

Thanks everyone! Let me give you a little background on my question. We had originally booked 4/30-5/7 (Sat-Sat), but then I got a pin code yesterday (yay! ) but 4/30 wasn't included so I changed it to 5/1 (a Sunday).

I was also thinking doing tues-tues but I didn't want to miss an extra day of work and I didn't want the kids to miss an extra day of school so we'll see what rates SW has when they release fares this week. I know that USAIR has great weekday fares - not so much on a Sunday. I just don't want to save so much on our disney package and then wind up paying the difference in airfare. KWIM??

And no I do not use a TA for flights or go through Disney. I surf the web myself till I find a deal.
