Are refillable mugs worth it?

I will be traveling to WDW in May with DH and DS (15 months). We will be staying at the Yacht or Beach Club. I'm wondering if the refillable mugs are worth it. My DH does drink a lot of soda. Do we both have to get them? I saw the thread about the "tracking device" in the bottom :rotfl: so i know I can only use them at my resort. Anything else I need to know about the mugs? TIA!

When we went when my kids were 4 and 6 and we ate a lot in our hotel it was worth it for us. We were eating 1 meal per day at the hotel plus getting a drink in the am, when we came back in the afternoon to rest, and at bedtime. You could just get one mug and share any way you want. It depends on how long you are staying and if once you get back to your room you feel like venturing back out for drinks. We did not want to carry our mugs around the parks with us. We are planning to get them again this time even though we'll be on the meal plan and not eating at our resort at all. We like having coffee in the morning and want to save our snacks on the mealplan for bottled water and mickey rice krispies ;)

Are you a coffee drinker? If so that can make it very worth it. Do you plan on spending much time at your resort swimming, relaxing? If so that is another factor. We have bought them for all of our trips. They make a nice souveneir at home, we use them all the time! Basically I think one soda at the food court is $2.50. The mugs are $12. So if you plan on having more than 4 beverages it is very worth it. You don't both have to get them, you can share but I think given what you are probably spending on Yacht and Beach Club, you deserve your own mug!! Our little trick is to fill ours (hubby and mine's that is) with diet coke and then add our own rum while our kids swim. Also, my kids aren't allowed to drink soda at home but when we go to Disney I let them have their fill. Its like Coca Cola heaven for them, they probably refill three times a day, thank God we aren't at WDW too often! One last thing, to justify the cost and calories/sugar/caffeine of the resort soda we drink, we almost never drink it in the parks unless its included in the meal. We bring our own water bottles for counter service meals almost always.

We thought they were worth it. We got 2 for the 4 of us. Got beverages in the AM and also once we got back to the hotel in the PM and whenever we were at the pool - food court was right next to pool area. Our room wasn't that far from the food court area so that made it easier too. We were DH, me, and 2 toddlers 3 & 4. Between coffee and soda we feel that we made out pretty well but we were there for 12 nights so even if we got 1 drink a day it paid for itself. We also did it because it was a souvenier the kids get to use all the time at home.
If your thinking it would be cheaper to go this route figure about $2.00 per drink - mug is around 12.00 so if you would use it at least 5-6 times (at the hotel vs. the parks - because many people don't want to have to carry them all day) then your covering the cost of the mug.

We think they are worth it, for sure!

Drinks probably average around $1.99 each. If you have a coffee or tea every morning, and 1-2 soft drinks/day at your resort, then the price of drinks adds up pretty fast.

If you bought a regular mug for a souvenier, then you'd probably spend at least $8.00. The refillable mugs are $11.99 (I think--maybe $12.99..........I can't remember right now!) and you get unlimited drinks with that mug, plus a good souvenier from your resort. A bargain!

We use out POR mugs every day at home. They are dishwasher safe and handle everyday wear-and-tear well.

I thought it was worth it, I refilled mine two or three times a day, and I was there for ten days, so I had 20+ sodas for $12. If I had bought each soda by itself it would of cost over $50, so definatly a good deal.

It depends.

When we were at Pop in January we did not have the dining plan. We would use the mugs for coffee at breakfast, then we would refill with soda or lemonade when we would come back in. (We took the mugs to the parks and put them in a locker.) That was worth it.

In October we had the Dining Plan and we brought a Brita water bottle. We had a horrible room location so it would have been an enormous hike to go fill the mugs. We found that we really wouldn't have gotten much use from them since you get a drink with every meal. By about the third day we weren't even bringing the water bottle because we just didn't need it. It wasn't very hot, and we used snack credits for drinks in the parks if we were thirsty between meals. We still had plenty of credits for things like ice cream because all 3 of us didn't get our own drink each time.

Next year we might consider the mugs again because we are planning to go back for a break each afternoon. Then it would be worth it just to have unlimited drinks while we are hanging around the resort.

Yes those mugs are very helpfull in saving a lot of money :bounce: We have our mugs from the POP & Allstars.

Our trip is coming up :earsboy: :earsgirl:
12/31/05 thru 1/02/06 Allstars one night & POP Century the other!

If you can't get to a store to buy soda, juice and water, it probably is. We bring our own coffee and brew it in the room, since Disney coffee doesn't sit well with us, and for the price of 1 mug, we can buy enough soda, water, and juice to last a week. This assumes your room has a fridge and a coffeemaker. Of course, if you're buying the mugs for souveniers, then it probably doesn't matter.

Can you get the refillable mugs at all the resorts? we are staying at SSR

They are available in the Artist Palette food area at SSR.

Not for us, but for some people

One thing to be aware of is that Disney resorts can be very large. The mug refill station is usually near the central pool. So if you drink a lot of pop and spend a lot of time by the pool, it can be well worth it. But if you aren't at your resort much, or if you are, but in your room and your room ends up being a five minute walk to get a soda, you may not get much use out of it.

We keep drinks in the room (pop, beer, use coffeemaker) and it is more convenient to have it right there, rather than running down to the quick service place.

We have never bought the mugs. Instead I just bring along our own soda, juice and bottled water. This is easier for us because we have cold drinks whenever we want them versus having to walk to fill up a mug. This is especially true after walking all day at the parks. Also, it costs me a lot less than the price of a mug. It really just depends on what works best for your schedule and budget.

I think they are worth it. It's nice to have a mug with you that you can fill during the length of your stay. At night if you are thirsty (as long as the foodcourt isn't closed) you can get a drink without waiting in line or taking out your wallet. Plus it's a nice souviner to take home. I enjoy using mine at work.

If you will not be at any stores to buy sodas and coffee, they are worth it, but if you have a car or are making a grocery stop, for what you pay for a mug you could buy a couple of 12 packs of soda.

We think they're worth it. I noticed the soda prices were sometimes $2.09 each, and the mugs make a great souvenir. We had the dining plan and when getting a drink at the hotel or in the parks, chose bottled water usually. Worked out great.

Our were but then we looked at them as souvenirs and they're well worth the price for a souvenir. We did get a lot of use out of ours while we were there. My kids had hot chocolate almost every night after we returned from the parks and my Ds and I used ours for diet coke also. My Dd doesn't drink anything fizzy so she used hers mostly for water in the morning other than the hot chocolate at night. Mine is now at work being used for hot tea every day.

So, you can use them in the parks, too? For some reason I thought you could just use them in the resort. Since we will be traveling with a stroller it probably wouldn't be that hard to tote our mugs to the parks with us. My DH works for Coke and is quite a junkie. If he could use it for his Coke fixes all day, that would really be a deal!

Not exactly. You can pre-fill your mug and bring it to the parks with you, but you can't get re-fills in the parks.
