Are points deducted when you book or when you travel?

I have an August use year.

If I book a trip today for September, 2010, do they take the points from my August 2009 use year (I've banked all of my 8/08 points) or do they take them from my August 2010 use year which is when the trip will be taking place?

Essentially, I want to know is it the date of booking or the date of travel when points are taken.

If you log onto your dvcmember.com account, you can track your activity.

If you have banked you 08/08 points, they will be good for vacations from Aug 2009 through July 31st 2010.

For a vacation in Sept 2010, member services will use the points that are in the Aug 2010 through July 31st 2011 use year. You will be able to book your Sept 2010 vacation in Oct 2009 11 months from check in date (if it is in your home resort)

The points used are based on date of stay but they are deducted from the appropriate use years when you book.

For a September 2010 stay with an August use year, you can use banked 2009, current 2010, borrowed 2011.

If you know that you want to use 2009 UY points for your 2010 UY vacation, you need to bank those points before your banking deadline, 8 months from the start of your UY, by the end of March in your case. If you are still within your banking deadline when you make your reservation, you can have MS bank the number of 2009 UY points you want to have banked.

Just to make sure it is clear, if you have banked Aug 08 points into Aug 09 use year, you will not be able to use those particularly points for a Sep 2010 trip. Those banked points must be used for a trip that ends by July 31, 2010.
