are people wearing masks on planes?

Flew two weeks ago and did not see any masks. Our doctor told us that you should only wear a mask when you are sick, not when healthy.

I've also NEVER heard of an airline refilling a bottle of water with water in a holding tank, that is known not to be potable to begin with.

In all my years of flying, I've only ever received bottled water. I do not ask for ice if I am getting a soft drink though. I've read studies about the ice machines being a breeding ground for bacteria.

We flew 2 weeks ago and did not see one mask in airports or on planes. Our flights were not full so if someone near us had been coughing quite a bit, we would have asked to be moved. We wiped down the tray tables and arm rests and washed our hands and used sanitizer if we used the restroom. We also washed our hands or used sanitizer if we couldn't get a sink while in the parks.

DH came down with a respiratory infection the day after we arrived home, but luckily (knock on wood), DD and I have been healthy. Yesterday, we had a confirmed case of H1N1 in DD's daycare class...so I'm glad we didn't worry too much while on vacation since it seemed to find us here at home.

I noticed last year when I was at WDW that there were alot of people sneezing into the air, not covering their mouths or using their sleeves. Plus you have runny nosed kids touching everything. You have to worry about more than just the plane.

I saw a lady with a mask on last month. I'm not sure if it was because she was sick, or she was afraid of getting sick. But by the time my flight landed I was wishing I had one, because the guy next to me was hacking something horrible!:scared:

Many of my work days are spent taking care of H1N1 patients who are soooo sick they've ended up on life support. Some have died. Very sad. Every time before I enter an H1N1 room, I put on an N95 mask. EVERY time. I have not caught it yet. And, no, I didn't get an H1N1 vaccine. Not going to, either. But thats another debate.

When I fly next month, you bet, I will be wearing an N95 mask. My routine already includes using lysol wipes when I get on a plane, that won't change....

Stay healthy everyone...wash your hands....wash your hands....wash your hands....wash your hands....wash your hands....wash your hands....

First...healthcare worker and no H1N1 vaccine...thats an issue for a different thread....but...
Do you wear the mask everyday in your normal life? Do you plan on wearing it eveyrday on vacation?
I have severe asthma, heart disease, and am on immunosuppresents and I was curious about this and asked my doctor who is a specialist in allergies/immunology/infectious disease and her response was no point unless you are the one who is sick or you have a severely suppressed immune system (ex:cancer). She said that I was more likely to catch the flu at school than on a plane. I fly every year during flu season and I have never caught anything from a flight...why would i expect this year to be any different.

If you are that worreid about catching it but wont or cant get the flu shot or H1N1, i advise you to ask about the pneumovax....the main issues have not been the virus itself but complications especially pneumonia.
